Trailing Arm Bushings -

I recently had a set of aluminum trailing arms serviced by a local shop.
They replaced the rear bearings and pressed out the rubber bushings in preparation for
converting to graphite.
I think I've got a problem with the bushing removal. When the shop pressed out the rubber bushings, they also removed the steel
inserts from the trailing arms.
I know that both the graphite and the stock bushings expect these inserts to remain in place.
According to the local Porsche dealer, the inserts are not available as a separate part.
My fear is that I now own two attractive aluminum boat anchors (with brand new bearings).
Does anyone know of a fix for this?
Thanks
Joe

Joe,

Assuming you already have the poly-graphite bushings on hand, just take the bushing and one aluminum banana to a local industrial bearing supply house and get some new steel bushings with an ID about 0.001" to 0.003" smaller than the OD of the plastic bushings. Heat the banana to 250-300 degrees F and freeze the steel bushings, lubricated with moly grease, and quickly press into place, adjusting the centering with a brass or copper-faced mallet, as required. Installation should be the same as with a new arm!
