Help! Replacing "unique" emergency brake cable

I need help!

I have an 87 930 and need to remove the e-brake cable from the rear hub. It doesn't seem to be the same design sold by our gracious host.

Anyone seen this before? How do I remove it? I can probably cut the cable slightly visible between the hub and collar on the cable, but how do I insert a new one? Mine appears to be connected to a clevis joint directly pressed onto the cable (no nut).

This is from the rear of the hub, showing how the cable enters passes through to the inner brake shoes. It doesn't have the traditional nut and cotter pin. Yes, I cleaned and painted my banana arms.

From the inside, this is where the nut and cotter pin are supposed to be.

Ideas?

Thanks,

Glenn
