Blasted
In spite of tomorrow being New Years Eve I am referring to media blasted. Thought I'd share some pics of my 73 E project.
First is off to the blaster (I just like the pic)...

The list of rust damaged panels includes rockers, latch jams, front fenders and front splash panels. This however, is the worst and most expensive proble, the rear deck/firewall/rear window.
Hope it doesn't make anyone sick.....

dont feel bad, my 74 sunroof coupe has a dime to quarter size hole below the left hand side back window. Seems like many cars rust there by the drain hole. I have not found anyone offering replacement panels for this area?

So what is the plan.... are you doing a restoration or maybe an RS replica?

Excellent photes - remember never under estimate the power of the mig!!!!!!!
Check out the 'b-pillar'on my 85 carrera that i'm rebuilding just now. ![]() To help slow down future corrosion - you must remove as much (If not all) sand from inside box sections etc. - Small bore flexi hose onto a hoover does a very good job just dont let the wife catch you. |

How much does having a whole car media blasted like that cost, if you don't mind me asking?
I assume any fragile parts (ie fiberglass flares) have to be removed and any bondo work redone? Or is it less intrusive than that? Just curious...

Rob - How in the world does an '85 Carrera get that much rust? Aren't they fully galvanized with a 10-year warranty? And didn't Porsche have a bare SC (or earlier) sitting outside forever?
I thought that was one thing I never had to worry about with my '86. Chris. |

Chris,
over here its wet for 360 days per year, add that to the constant coating of salt on the roads, i think the car is very good for an '85. One of my mates who ownes a body shop has a 89 Carrera 4 sitting awaiting simular repairs. Galvanising is good for slowing down corrosion but at the end of the day - it is only a sacrifical protection and breaks down over time. |
