Good price? 83 SC with a 3.6

Just ran across this car, looks amazing. Just wandering what the pelican peeps think.

25,000 for it:

Looks to be a well sorted car. Price might be a tad high IMO. Of course the best recommendation if you are serious is to get a PPI done. There are some know issues with the 3.6 like the belt that drives the second distributor can break.

He's another pelican. He was recently on Market place discussion deciding on a value for the car.

Look at some of the recent threads about what it would cost to do a 3.6 swap correctly. I think the price wasin the neighborhood of the price of this car and that was if you had a car already to do the swap on. I paid 23.5K for my 80SC with the same engine swap.

This guy easily has 35K invested if not more. I would suggest a PPI to make sure the engine is tip top and if it passes..... Enjoy!

I love my 3.6 swapped car its a monster and a blast to drive.

Good luck.

Agreed, this car would cost you over 35K to build. It's a steal if you want a 3.6L 911 Cab!

at 25k if it passes a clean PPI it is a steal.

though i dunno about the comment saying it has ssi's. they don't fit 964+ heads...and are not big enough...

the price is very fair. you can't build a car like that for less. now if you are focused on what bluebook or nada say then I would suggest you are not the right guy to buy this type of car. good luck.

Hell, the wheels alone are about $3000. Looks like a great car. When the SSI's are replaced the power will be enormous.

Agreed SSI's are too small for a 3.6 (or even a 3.2, depending on many factors) but they do fit 964 heads. 993 heads have rotated flanges on one side in comparison w/ the older heads.

That's cheap.....I'm running 993 HEs that have been rewelded to fit. I'm not a fan of red, but it looks to be well sorted.

I went further with a body backdate.....if it passes a PPI, grab it.

Hey thats my car! Thanks for all of the positive responses. I purchased the car the way that it sits so I had nothing to do with it when it was in the project stage. I did just take it into the shop to get an oil change before I sell the car and was told buy the mechanic that there is a valve cover gasket on the right side that has a slight leak and the intermediate shaft seal that also has a small leak. He said the car checks out o.k. other than that. I am going to be taking the car in next week to get both fixed before someone buys the car other than that I have owned the car for 2 trouble free years and only selling the car to purchase a 993. To address the SSI's they are there and seem to fit very well. I will try to post some pics of them in the next day or so if I can get a chance to take a picture of the bottom of the car. Thanks again.

As long as there is no "smog" issue with where you register the car, it's a sweet deal!!!

How is it kept cool? One cooler or two? My experience is that two are necessary, if you drive in warm months. I don't think the Carrera cooler in the fender is sufficient, assuming that is what it has?

Great car, though. Could part it out for $25k, probably, if needed.
Just curious.....
What are the leakdown results?
What are the compression test results?

Doug

I had the car smogged about a year ago to renew the plates and it did a quick pass.

Yes, Hank Watts put a 993 rear suspension and a 993TT motor and a G50 transaxle into a 1972 widebody tub. Needless to say, he goes very fast in it. (He's also the author of the well repected 'Secrets of Solo Racing.')

The car has 1 Carrera cooler with a Carrera front bumper with a fresh air intake. In the warmest months that we have in Colorado the car runs just fine without any over heating issues.

I asked about getting a leak down on the engine when I had in in for service so I could show perspective buyers but, was told the 3.6 has tapered pistons and even on a fresh motor the readings are not going to be correct.
