Flag mirror heights

I have noticed that the flag mirror on the passenger side is @ 1" lower than the driver's side. Know that they are mounted in different places, but shouldnt they both be at the same height?

How can I change this, and should I raise the Passenger or lower the drivers side? What is the correct height from the grond to the highest point of the flag mirror?

Thanks

The passenger's side is actually a little higher and farther back. Look at the position of the base relative to the vent window or A pillar. I don't think the difference is as big as 1" but if the two mirrors were symmetrical, then you wouldn't be able to see behind you. Try not to let it bother you, and leave em alone.

update,

the PO had just bolted the mirrors on with a nut on the end of the stud through the mirror nstead of using the j-hook that attaches to the bolt. I think that this is pulling the mirror up instead of forcing it down to seat in the existing holes in both doors.

also there are no reinforcing plates inside the doors for both mirrors.

Once again, just wanted to know what is the correct hight from the floor to the top or bottom of the flag mirror - want to know where to go from her - adjust up or down.

I will not be drilling additional holes, except for the plates, in the doors. thinking that the jhooks will pull the mirrors down to the correct level, just want to know what that is?

It sounds like you're talking about part #4 in the diagram.
.

There is no plate, just a rubber gasket. The mirror is held on by three claws, the last of which is the part that you are missing.
As for the height, I don't understand why you are asking this. You have the original holes for the mirrors already in the doors, and the mirror housing just fits right in there. When it's done the mirrors should be level. You can't adjust them for "height".

I'd try to locate the J hook claw at a used parts place from a guy who is parting out his 911. Last resort is Porsche, but I'd go there to get the right part before taking a drill to my 911 in order to install a bolt that didn't originally go there. Just my own $.02.

the top portion of my mirrors base gasket is 1/32" to being flush to the bottom edge of the window molding.

It is a hair away from flush.

Hope this helps.

I have to correct myself here:

last night I went out to the garage and decided to tighten the mirror on the SC. Because of this post, I took the mirror off so that I could try to post a pic, and sure enough, there was the support plate that you mentioned. It's pop riveted to the inside of the door before the doors are painted.

when the mirror is installed, both drivers and passenger mirrors are snug against the black anodized aluminum window frame. That is, the mirrors are as high as can be.

Since both 911s are at different ride heights, there is no set height measurement that will help you.

You can see the "j hook" setup in this picture.
