Who says SWB cars are a pain to drive

I don't think a Porsche owner has lived UNTIL they drive a short wheelbase. I took mine out yesterday, it was soaked everywhere and it handled beautifully. Cruised down the freeway for about 10 miles, and she did great. Gave the Webers a little quick tune up on the screws and they were doing great. Everyone, go out and buy a short wheelbase or bring a short wheelbase back from the dead.

That’s because thats all you know and that’s good, they say the same thing about tail-dragger pilots, that’s all I know and it’s a blast…

As both an SWB driver AND a taildragger pilot (former 7KCAB owner) I can tell you this: your brain is the SECOND most important organ in your body when it comes to keeping things pointed straight.

How about taildragger pilots and LWB owners? Do they count as much as SWB owners? The only way to fly is with the steering in the rear - isn't an early 911 kind of like that too?

The Committee has met and ruled on your question.

The Committee has determined that despite the fact that LWB owners "need" an extra 2-1/4" and at least 200 cc more displacement to compete with SWB owners, in your particular case, having tended to the care and feeding of an R-1340 for many years and generally advanced the cause of Engines That Turn Dollars Into Smoke Noise and Speed, your enjoyment of an LWB longhood's tail-wagging tendency will be Officially Recognized.

The Committee also recommended you for SWB ownership in the future.

John, ROTFLMAF! Yeah we just have longer tails to wag. You know what they say about those that have longer tails...? I would love to get a SWB, but they are really getting hard to find and $$$$ too. I saw one of our own has his up for sale on ebay. Darn nice car, but I think I would have a really hard time selling that to the war dept.

The war dept? That's great! I have used CFO and Factor W (for the buying anything equation)in the past.

No no don't get me wrong, I own a 2006 Porsche 911, this is the 997 model. It too is a coupe, it has 3600cc's my 1966 only has 2200cc's as its a bored 2000cc engine. My 2006 has all sorts of "systems" and things heated, and a fancy way of cooling the engine, and just straight hurts when you accelerate through a turn. All this and IT IS NOT AS GOOD AS A SWB PORSCHE. Nothing is, its as simple as that. I don't think you can get a better opinion than mine as I own 40 years of variation. Trust me on the SWB thing.

Oh and John, excellent representation of the SWB experience. However I must disagree, my SWB has the 200cc advantage of the LWB models bored into it.

Too funny! I often refer to "I'll have to consult with the appropriations committee"

Like I tell my mechanic...."Don't you ever, EVER call the house.........Use my cell"

That "flap" handle under the dash that will open the vent but not close it
The sticky side windows
The push button door opener that no passenger will ever figure out or develop the skills to use
The lack of a proper door handle on the driver's side that causes you to tug the door pocket to close the door
Gear shift that hits the driver's seat
One heater pull for the whole car
Ice accumulates on the inside of the windshield

I lived with a couple of those cars for years, I never minded the handling

Henry,
LMFAO! See this airplane and old 911 ownership thing go hand in hand. I NEVER have airplane parts shipped to the house and I just received my last home shipment from Pelican. I really wish they would use smaller boxes. All others are going to the office. . I too have all "those kinds" of calls go to my cell phone. Me thinks the WD has learned not to ask me how much something airplane/car related is going to cost. She knows that she will not like the answer! [img]

Yes, SWB's are very cool and I wish I had one. I am almost an SWB.... it's a 69, isn't that close enough?

Thank you for this thread!
I have been thinking of selling my '68 for something more modern, i.e. faster. It doesn't help that I haven't seen or driven my car since October, but this thread is reinvigorating me.

Sorry, your 2 1/4 inches over the limit. You'll have to throw it back
