Porsche Crest Fan blade clean up ?

Hello again everybody....

Just wanted to know which way to you recommend to shine-up my fan.
The car has been sitting for a while, and has gone though a lot of dirt and salt. I shipped it from the US to Cyprus as I mentioned before.
There is no rust, however, the blade seems to need a LOT of work.

Suggestions?

There is nothing like a clean engine, and a shiny blade.

Pull the fan off, put some diposable gloves on, and start "scrubbing" away with some #0000 steel wool. First though start with a wire brush to get the heavy stuff off, then the steel wool.

Yeah, I don't think that you want to do that. As has been posted, you don't want to take steel abrasives to mag parts.

Ahhhhh whoops, what problem does that cause? Since I have already crossed that bridge.

particles of steel imbedded in the magnesium will react with the mag and cause galvanic corrosion. white powdery stuff and pitting. probably not a big issue with polishing but death if under paint. as you proceed with your polishing you will probably remove most stray particles. don't lose sleep over it. in future stick with stainless steel wool, stainless wire brushes, etc. Don.

Media blast first then tumble in silicone to seal pores. spray silicone spray to protect. Mag was never ment to shine like chrome. You want to start chroming, buy a Harley
