New Rims
Hello everybody.
I have been inspired to put on some new rims on my -84 Carrera. I would like to have a set of RH AG CUP next to my set of Fuchs. My fuchs are 16" 7" in front ET 23 and 8" in the back ET15.(I think that is the org spec. ) Now i would like to put a set of 17" or 18" on it for everyday use. Option1. 17" Font 8" 215/45/17 Rear 9" 255/40/17 Option2 8x18, 9x18 with 225/40/18, 255/35/18 Option3 Font 8x17 215/45/17 Rear 9x18 255/35/18 Can u fit a 18*8" 225/45/18 in the front of a carrera? Witch modifications do i have to do? Can i use the same ET??? Do i have to allign the wheelsetting everytime i change between the fuchs and the CUP? Thanks for ur help!

If you do this, go with the 17 inch rims. The ride on the 18s will be harsh to say the least.

Stock Fuchs fitment on an '84 was 7 & 8 x15 or 6 & 7 x16
Over the past 20 odd years someone may have fitted 7 & 8 x16. If so the front is the old ET+23.3 rear 7 and the 8 is ET+10.6. All of your options are certainly doable, I would start w/ the tires you want to use and the use of the car. For track use 18 is going to be better for street 17 or 18. Not all sizes of a particular tire are are available from every manufacturer. 18s in the appropriate sizes will be slightly taller than 18s and as a result be slightly harder to fit and will affect gearing adversely(this does depend on your goals though). You will want 8" fronts w/ ET from 25-32 the lower ET will have more lip issues the higher more inner body panel issues 225/40 in either 17 or 18 9" rear w/ ET 13- 19, 15 is ideal, there will be no fitments issues the closer to 15 that you are. 255/40x17 or 265x35x18 If your alignment is good now no need to redo, The same ETs are used for 15 -18, but the acceptable range is reduced as the wheel gets bigger

I know of no 285/30 x18 that is speced for a 9" rim
Another constraint on tires for those that car about handling, besides the absolute width and height of a tire, is the balance front to rear. Generally, as the difference between front and rear gets greater under-steer becomes more pronounced, where it becomes to much is a personal decision a difference > 40 is a good upper limit i.e. 225/265 or a difference < 20 as a good lower limit i.e. 205/225 There are of course idiosyncratic reasons to go outside these guides

Here are the ones I used to run. They are Simmons wheels 7.5 &9 X 17. 215 & 255 tires. These really made the car look great. Not so big it looked like a cartoon but still gave it a more modern look. Here are some pics. The car needed to be lowered.

Thanks CMXI, They are for sale right now, but I'm guessing shipping to Sweden would be prohibitive. These are custom made for the SC / Carrera platform and one of the 944s but, I can't remember which one. There was no rubbing (I lowered the car lower than the pic above) or fitment issues. These are truely one of those wheels that look better in person than any photo could show. If you like them, you may want to see if there is a distributor in Europe, they are made in Australia.
