no high or low beams

My 88 carrera high and low beams stop working. The problem started with a driver's tail light that was out. I changed the fuse and it worked. Now the high and low beams quit working. All the other lights work on the car and I changed the fuses for the high and low to no avail. Any suggestions? thanks in advance

Try pulling the headlight switch to the "on" position and then jiggling the stalk switch for the high beams. If the lights come on, then the stalk switch is bad. It's very common for the stalk switch to go bad.

thanks for the quick reply, but excuse my ignorance, what's a stalk switch and where is it located?

It's the combination high beam/turn signal switch on the left side of the steering column.

Be sure you have the ignition key in the "on" position.
