Lindsey Racing P2 wheels VS Fuchs
hey all...
the time has come to ditch my cheap aftermarket turbo twists that came with the my 911 when i bought. the choice i have is whether to go with 16 inch fuchs 16x7 and 16x8, or go with the lindsey racing P2 wheels... probably 17x7 and 17x8. I actually got the suggestion about the lindsey racing wheels from some random guy at a gas station on the 10 between LA and phoenix... Couple questions: weight...which is lighter? height...i would like to lower the car down the euro specs and im wondering if anyone has any pics of their car with P2s lowered. Is there any rubbing? there's quite a difference in price. the lindsey racing wheels for 4 would run about 2300, whereas used fuchs would run about 1500 i think. is it worth the money? dave at TRE was telling me its worth the money for a reason being there are more tire options for a 17 inch rim than a 16. anyway, it'd be great to get a reply from someone who has bought the P2s. thanks! david |

Unfortunately I can not comment on the wheels but I agree with TRE that there will be more tire options for 17" wheels. I think the tire market for our 16" wheels is becoming obsolete.

Why not wait and see what Moses' aftermarket 17" fuchs replicas look like. He should have a prototype set on his car very soon, judging from his previous posts. I think the wheels will be 17x7.5 & 17x9, and should retail for around $1000. Just another option.
Lindseys are quite nice, though. -Garen (87 930)

Re: Lindsey Racing P2 wheels VS Fuchs
If I had to do it all over again, I think I would have gone the Lindsey way too...
Dave is right, you will have more tire options with the 17's... Especially important if you have plans of doing DE's or AutoX!! Don't worry too much about rubbing issues... Those can be worked out when you get the wheels. If you go for Fuch's, get 8&9's. The 8's (951) in front were a HUGE improvement for my car! I think you might be a tad unrealistic on pricing though... If you are going with Fuch's, try Jason Cullen. 8 & 9's will run roughly $2300. Lindsey's might run $2300, but probably only if you supply them with (4) 16x6 donors for the centers... Let us know how it works out for you! Pictures are mandatory!! ![]()

Here are the advantages to the Lindseys: tire availability (like Dave said), they're slightly lighter than the Fuchs, in the same width, and -- most importantly -- you can run wider Fuchs-based wheels than stock Fuchs offsets allow. With either Fuchs or Fuchs-based Lindseys, it would be handy to know the wheels (or donors) you're buying. Fuchs have a finite lifetime, in terms of stress cycles. Generally speaking, used 8's or 9's are going to have gone through more stress than the 6's Lindsey uses as donors. But in a perfect world, you'd find a set of 6's that you know the specific history on. Two Pelicanites have been working on another 17-inch option, recently. Jeff Alton in Canada (he used to be known as 'catca' on the board) will be making 17-inch and 18-inch forged centers that can be mated to 3-piece wheel components to make 17- or 18-inch wheels to fit any 911 out there. Jeff's wheels will be forged (like the original Fuchs), and as I understand it he plans to get them load tested in the same fashion the big auto manufacturers do it before he sells them. Mark (Moses) is working on a cast Fuchs replica in a 17-inch diameter. Hopefully, there will be some load testing done on those wheels by the manufacturer and hopefully they'll publish the results. (There were cheap cast Fuchs replicas made in the past that won the scorn of PCA scrutineers and users alike.) The advantage of the Moses Fuchs will be price (he's shooting for $250/wheel). I'm not clear on whether they end up being strictly street-only wheels or viable for actual track use . From the sound of things, Jeff Alton's wheels will have a slightly better 'pedigree,' and will probably be the choice for guys who want to track their cars while retaining the classic Fuchs look. But at this point, both those options are still in the prototyping stage. I'm not certain when either of them will have wheels available for sale. The advantage with Jeff Alton's wheels (as opposed to Lindseys) is that you'll know the history of the center you're using -- it's just been forged. Previously, there were no options at all for 18's with Fuchs centers. Jeff Alton's centers should change that, too. Speaking for myself (since I can't get 315mm Toyos in 16- or 17-inch sizes), I can't wait for the 18-inch centers. Here's a couple of pictures of my old car with Lindsey 8x10x17 P2s. ![]() ![]() And here are a few pictures of my current car with Lindsey 9.5x11x17 P2s. ![]() ![]() ![]() As a footnote, our host Pelican Parts tried to line up manufacturing on some 17-inch replicas, but the supplier ended up dropping the ball.

I've got an 88 carrera with pretty much the factory ride height ans a set of
Lindseys on the way. Anybody out there know what size tires I can run without any rubbing issues. Thanks DKP |

Jack- thanks for the great reply...great info and examples. currently the lindsey racing wheels sound like a good option for a narrow body carrera. i'll probably do it unless someone offers me orig fuchs for a good price or one of those two other guys jeff or moses come up with some rims at a good price.
however, after checking out lindseyracing.com i could only find 8x9.5x17 P2s. no 10s. i'm assuming the 9.5s is plenty wide right? |

I do not think you could go wider than 9.5 on the back with out making mods. This is for a Carrera...

I'm Planning on 9's on the rear and 8 up front but wonder if I have any choices on the tire size. Any ideas? Thanks DKP
And P.S. to all of you out there this has been a great discovery. Where I live in colorado there are only about 6-8 porsches of the air cooled variety and absolutly no porsche community to speak of. So thanks for all of your help and thanks to pelican parts for the web space |

9's or 9.5's in the back are probably ideal. With the 10's, I needed to run a fair amount of camber, reposition one oil line, and machine down a bolt on the spring plate. Those are probably actually my 9's in the back in those two street pictures. I also had 10's, but they usually wore track tires.
