Me, too!

Seems like there is an epidemic of people who are either dropping their engines out or just getting them back in.

So... me too.

I've started my drop today. The engine runs strong, but has gotten to where it leaks a little more than I will accept.

Additionally, the trans shifts like crap.

I already know this is going to get more expensive than I want it to be, but it needs to be done. I will be performing a 915 overhaul and an engine reseal (which will inevitably end up with a lot of "while I'm in there" work).

I hope to look to fellow Pelicans for advice with the 915, and maybe try to borrow some transmission tools that I lack.

Somebody mentioned to me that I should have a pro do the internals and me just stick to assembly stuff.

Once the engine is disassembled, I can see what the PO has done during the previous build. Anyone want to suggest some simple HP tricks and tips for my 3.0sc? Cams maybe? Head work?

Any Pelicans near Greenville, South Carolina want to stand around with beer and watch me work? (In SC we call this "helping"...) Or better, I'll bring the beer and watch you guys work !!

In other news, my ported and match-flowed heads for my MoPar 340 should be back in a couple months. It's looking like 2007 will be a year of car repairs. Not sure if I should or .... or

cashfkyer,
I replaced my engine, installed new clutch, clutch cable, shifter bushings, etc... last summer and didn't even get to drive the car (Helga) until 12/22 when the CIS-to-Weber conversion project was completed by Tab Tanner. All I can say is that the work and PITA was worth it! Dropping and reinstalling the engine was a challenge for me because I'm not mechanically inclined, but I was able to do it with the help of the folks here and a few friends, fellow Pelicans and neighbors. Get it done, then enjoy!!

Harvey,

I would LOVE to give a hand. However, my schedule is sketchy at best. I'm working 1st shift this week, supposed to work 3rd next week, and have been asked to go out of town on business (again!!) soon. Going to Budapest for business after Easter too.

If you will, PM me or e-mail me your contact information so I can give you a call or stop by if I get a chance! I'll do the same.

Later,
Mike

Harvey,
I am in, just name the time and place, no beer required. I am free all day Friday's and Saturday's, Wednesday afternoons are good too. I will PM you my cell #, this will be good practice since my clutch has 75k miles on it--of course 50k of that is my driving. Let's see if KC and Pat want in too.

Rick... I plan on this thing being back together in time for my next DE in May!!

Mike & Dan... Sorry I didn't wait for replies. This is my third 911 drop, so I went ahead and got that out of the way.

My first post was at 5:33.
At 8pm the engine and trans were out.
1 man - 2.5hrs. Hurrrah!

I'm planning to read up on the Pelican 915 article as much as possible while at work today. This afternoon, I will split the trans from the engine and proceed to degrease it.

Contrary to the PM I sent you both, I now think that Tuesday afternoon will be a no-go for me. So I will plan to start disassembly on Wednesday.

I may be out of town this weekend (3-days) but am not sure at this time.

Dan, Mike, KC, Pat... and almost anyone else is welcome to stop by the shop while this work is underway.

Advice sought:

Do the CVs need any kind of servicing at this time?
Or just inspect, clean and repack?

Inspect, and re-pack. Although by the time you read this you are more than likely going back in with it!

Nope - not yet. One job at a time, or else I get confused.

Last night I degreased the trans and drained the fluid. The fluid was dirty, with a few blobs of sludge. The magnetic plug was quite fuzzy, but no chunks of metal.

I don't plan any work today, but will get back to it on Wednesday.

I think a couple of fellow Pelicans are planning to drop by on Thursday.

Harvey,
Thursday still looks good for me, how late have you been working on the car at night? I might have something in the early afternoon--will find out tomorrow and give you call. Slow down some so there is some work for the rest of us.

I don't know Mike, you have been absent quite a bit lately--must suck to have a real job where they send you off to nowhere all the time. At least being stuck in school and only working the weekends I know my schedule until next December. Hope to see you there.

I've been staying until 8pm, but I can stay longer.

As for work remaining... I plan to open the trans tomorrow, but don't know how far beyond that I will get. Looks like there will be quite a bit of examining, inspecting, and head scratching.

LOL Daniel! I was asked to go to Rogers, Arkansas before going to Budapest after Easter now... I never know what they're going to ask me to do.

Hey Harvey, head scratching, now that's something I'm pretty good at doing. I'm confused most of the time What time should I plan on being there Thursday?
