1975 911S Alternator Problem... Help!
I have a 1975 911S and two weeks ago I replaced the alternator. Now, two weeks later the alternator light and the EGR light have started to come on intermittantly. Now both of them are coming on toghether and staying on. Is this a short or something else? Your help would be greatly appreciated.
PS-The belt is okay, and every thing else is fine as far as I can tell. ------------------ --Jason Liso |

Jason,
Without knowing the system operating Voltage before you changed the alternator, after changing the alternator (but before your warning lights came to bother you) ... and at the present time, it would be most difficult to ascertain just what the problem might be! Typically, the alternator warning lamp being illuminated means the electrical system is at less than 13 Volts. That could be the result of a Voltage regulator malfunction, or a defective alternator, or a defective battery! It does not necessarily mean there is an excessive current drain on the system ... that is a very distant, remote possibility! Unless you provide additional data, not much else can be said with any certainty! You will need readings from a digital multimeter or Voltmeter to diagnose your problem accurately. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |
