valve stem expertise please

Can anyone tell me what this valve stem is and why it is used on the space saver spare?

I'm looking to mount this tire on a conventional rim (Fuchs) and wondering if I can get away with a regular stem.

Thanks

Bill K

maybe its just a fancy all-metal one that does not deteriorate after years buried deep within the trunk?

And is less likely to get damaged by a lateral impact from something being put into the trunk.

There are many types of metal valve stems available. Those appear to be HD truck stems ... a friend of mine who is a serious hunter puts them on every wheel of his new 4WD trucks to protect from limbs and brush damage to the stems!

Racers use reinforcements on the stems because at sustained high speeds, centrifugal forces can cause the stems to bend, crack and/or shear.

iv seen guys weld a piece of pipe around the stem to protect it. Anyway this reminds me that i was wondering about my spacesaver stem also. It has a small white spring loaded thing nexto and built into the stem. I was thinking it might be so you know how full to make the tire. Like it pops out when its full? but i havnt tested it. anybody know

No, it's to deflate the tire when you are ready to put it away. Not everone has a valve stem removal tool handy or the time to let the air out with a wooden match.

how does it work? I tried to pull it up when the tire was inflated and it didnt do anything. It had spring tention keeping it down

I just read the fine print on the sticker and it says the tire is not to be dismounted and re-mounted.

I've seen a couple pass thru the FS board, so I think this is possible.

Will my tire guy be able to do this with his state-of-the-art equipment?

thanks again
