Need Help Please!!!!

I just bought a 1980 SC and the speedometer does not work, can anyone tell me which wires go where, I think that it is not wired correctly!! If someone could look at the back of their speedo and tell me by saying" the red w/black goes at 2:00 and the green goes at 12:00, etc..." I really appreciate the help and I think this board is really awesome!

I'm at work and cannot do what you ask at the moment, but I'm not sure you need me to. the Haynes manual has a reasonable set of electrical diagrams, and the Pelican site has reproduced them online. On the relevant (1980 or thereabouts) diagram, the speedometer should show the colors of the wires that are attached, and the numbers of the terminals (spade connectors) to which they attach. the terminal numbers will be visible next to the terminals on the back of the speedo.

There really is no substitute for using the electrical diagram when troubleshooting stuff like this. Good luck!

There is a magnetic reluctance sensor inserted into the transaxle that generates pulses that go to the speedometer ... before you go yanking wires off the back of the speedo, check the sensor at the right side (in the differential housing) of the transaxle, to see if the sensor is bolted secure, and that the electrical connection is secure and clean ... and be sure the back end is up on jack stands, placed under the rear torsion bar tubes, and secure, before you crawl under there!
