hmmmm... a $600.00 ?
hello, all. okay here it is. is it worth taking bruce anderson's class on 911 engine rebuilding? i'm sure it is. i have all the books and other references i need. any suggestion whomever had taken the class. what to bring, notes taking, etc. do you retain the knowledge of rebuilding or you forget upon completion of the session? i wanted to make sure my $600.00 would put to good use for a long time and help others as well. thanks in advance.

worthwhile. not so much as it was before Pelican got started & Wayne put out his book, but still worth it. motel will double the cost.
bring a notebook, a camera, and an appetite - they both like to eat and the food they bring in is very good - don't expect sushi - it'll be hearty fare Jerry is a road biker BTW and knows the good routes around there.

I heard it was a waste of money. All they did is show pictures.... like viewing someone else's vacation photos. The person said he learned more from Wayne's book. Does not sound fun to me....for $600.

I took the class a few years ago (Wayne was in the same class). It was very informative as he shows you some tricks of the trade so to speak. If you haven't seen one of these engines apart it is well worth it. You also get a history lesson from Bruce (a wealth of knowledge that man has). I used my notes and pictures from the class and waynes book to do my rebiuld. My engine seems to run well.

I don't see the need if you are reasonably handy and can read (ie Wayne's book). Buy a $600 set of headers instead.

Well if you don't feel confident take the course. A small mistake can cost a lot more that $600 .... and a longer lasting engine is also worth $600.

If you are going to ever touch the insides of one these engines it is a good investment. It is a good idea to have an idea of what you want to do because they will answer every question that you have. If you ask specific questions about a combination that you are considering they will be able to give you a good experienced opinion about it.
Jerry Woods has probably built motors with any conceivable combination of parts. The wealth of knowledge is incredible.

when I took it they asked people not to video -- they may someday want to put together their own video; you could take one and ask - I'd for sure take a still camera and ask first re that.
Note that neither of these guys are doing this for the $$ -- and you can imagine the $$/hour that their kind of expertise is worth. They just enjoy doing the class. also, I paid $600 and that must have been in the 1990s - no price increase since then... Jerry is also somewhat conservative - he doesn't try every new thing out there -- He tends to stick with something that really works. He is very computerized re his dyno though. He will also stick to things like Motec - he isn't interested in researching the cheapest way to get a partial solution (which might be what yo want). Just ask and he'll tell what and why; be sure to ask - is there a cheapo way to get there if that's what you're after. He'll tell you one if he knows it. I think that is accurate, tho it's been a while and fairly represents his views. In general, I think it is good to get opinions from all the top experts -- that is what we do in the sciences when we can't do the critical experiment we'd like to do. We use expert consensus as a "gap-filler." IF there is a any difference of opinion, you can then ask yourself if you want the cheapest, the safest, the whateverist solution. If there is no difference, it's easy...

ros - I'll agree with the above post to the extent that it is not the only thing out there anymore since Wayne published his book.
A lot might depend on your budget - but you wouldn't want to see that money wasted $600 on toilet covers, new sheets, or a bedspread fringe... etc.

Good thing about taking the class is you can ask those questions that the book won't. . .

thanks, big jake. yes, i have 101 project, rebuilding from wayne, 911 handbook, and haynes. i don't know if that's enough. i'm trying to get some insight and different outlook. 74 bentley is no longer available. do you know of a similar bentley handbook available somewhere?
