New guy on the block.

Well I finally took the plunge and bought my first 911, I have wanted one for about the last 15 years. I hope I did enough homework and research...I just bought an 81 911SC the cars is super clean has a fresh motor, tensioner upgrades, pop off valve. The car runs great and I hope I did not make a mistake. My plans are to keep this car for a couple of years and then upgrade to a carrera. I am sure glad I found this site I was previously a corvette owner and used their forum quite frequently. Whats the general concensus on the SC's??? are they as reliable and bulletproof as I have heard??..anyway I will be lurking in the background and posting questions for all you pros out there..it sure is nice to have a place to do that....thanx in advance

Welcome to the wonderful world of Porsche ownership. WARNING...owning a Porsche can be habit forming and you could be hooked for life. I have owned them since 1986 and it would be hard to imagine life without one.

The 3.0 SC's are great cars and their engines have a very long life span if properly maintained. I would recommend you buy a copy of Bruce Anderson's "911 Handbook" and the new Bentley 911SC Repair Manual (it should be available soon).

Stay tuned to this bulletin board and you will learn a lot; there are some very knowledgble people that share their wisdom with us all.

Regards, Bruce

My SC is a daily driver with 160k on the original motor. No worries at all.

My '86 is sitting pretty at 106000 on the clock. No problems with the engine in the 1 year+ that I've had it. The only weak spot in the car in my opinion is the transmission.

Welcome, I'm fairly new in that I've owned my '78 SC since June '00. This is a great forum if you plan on doing your own repairs. Not to sound like a PGA comercial but "These guys are good!"
