aux. air regulator

i have an 83 930 turbo that i am working on for a friend. it is running pig rick and does not run over 3000 RPM's in which it just spits and pops. my question is does the auxilary air regulator, when fully warmed up, does it open or remain closed? any help is appreciated.

It closes when warm which stops the controlled air leak that is used to raise the idle when cold.

What is the history if this problem?

the history of the problem is that over 3000 rpms the car goes pig rich, which ends up fouling out the plugs. fuel pressure at cold idle is 55 between WUR and fuel dist. and 50 when warm. the car goes through spark plugs like crazy, but when u put new plugs in, the car runs fine above 3000. new WUR and rebuilt fuel distributor. also when first started the car runs like junk. spitting, popping, and when you press the gas pedal, it just get worse as if it wants to die but after ~1 minute it returns to normal.

By history I mean when did the problem start, was it abrupt, what is the general condition of the engine.

55? Is that PSI?
Cold pressure should be ~1.25bar or 18psi.
Warm pressure should be ~3.6bar or 53psi
You should not be able to start this car cold with a pressure of 55psi, it would be extremely lean.

What is the type number of your engine (930/xx)? Is the smog equipment still present?

Assuming that the engine is running rich and the cold start pressure is incorrect it could be that a time or thermo switch has failed. The '86+ year 930s have a few extra smog gizmos. Check all of them electrically and vacuum lines as well.

Your system pressure should be ~90psi.
Cold pressure ~18psi.
Warm pressure ~53psi.
Cold and warm pressures are temperature dependant.
You could have a blown WUR. Is it leaking fuel?

it is a 930/60 engine. my heating element is at 27 ohms. my fuel pressure is at 68 psi before WUR. I also noticed that this car does not have a blow off valve.

When did this problem start?
Has this car been sitting for a long time (not ran)?
Can you post a picture of the top of the engine?
