Axle question
I'm installing SC hubs on a 1970 911 with a 1972 915 tranny, and will be purchasing complete set of new axles at the same time. I am trying to figure out which axle to purchase? I am also wondering if I am going to run into any trouble with a '72 transmission and SC hubs? Thanks.

Scott, see if I can paint U a ggod picture.
Look at your ’72-915 transmission axle flange, it has 6 holes and 4 of them are threaded. Now look at your SC hub, it also has 6 holes and all six are threaded. Look closer, the threaded holes between the 2 flanges are differ in diameter, by 2mm. It is very complicated and difficult to change your transmission axle flange to match the newer SC hub due to the spline size. Before buying your new axels, use the search button and do some reading on CV and axels. U need to understand the clamping force provided by the axel bolts and shear friction that transmits the driving torque. Most important is how to keep those bolts fixed tight. Charles |

Scott,
I think you won't be able to use the SC hubs, and will have to use '72 - '74 versions to remain compatible with the 4-bolt axles. You may want to read Sherwood Lee's article about alloy control arms: http://members.rennlist.org/911pcars/911AlloySuspAll-a.pdf
