77 911 Carrera door speakers
I am replacing the 30 years old 5" factory speakers in my 77 3.0 Carrera. The replacements out there seem to be either 4" or 6.5. I DON'T want to hack up the door itself. If I have to open the door panel a little, that's no big deal. Nothing looks worse than a pair of speaker that were installed by a hacker. There is a outward ledge right above the speaker opening that sticks out about a quarter inch, so going to a 6.5" is not really a option unless you want to end up with a non stock look. I am sure this problem has been solved before by someone on the board. Any thoughts?

Try a 5.25". Readily available size and ahould fit with not much by way of mods I would think. Try the Infinity Kappa's in that size (Infinity Kappa 52.7 or 53.7 - 2 way or 3 way, respectivley).

i wanted as much wallop from my door speakers as possible. Having a directional tweeter aiming at the other door didn't make much sense to me. That led to angling the bass. All speakers are aimed up & centered at the space between my head and passenger.
After layout i used threaded rivets in the door with long machine screws. Routine sheet metal screws would have been a problem waiting to happen. i also use 75 x 2 amp or the whole thing would have been a waste. Crystal clear ear damage volume is what i wound up with. I don't even use or want rear speakers.

No offense, but that is exactly what I don't want. Looking for a stock as possible appearance.

I installed Pioneer TS-GR1341R speakers in the doors of my 1985. Perfect fit. The Blaupunkt PCxb542 5-1/4" 2-way Speakers from Crutchfield did not fit. The Pioneer were a perfect fit, with the stock grill, with no modification at all.
The Pioneer sound OK. Much better than the 22 year old original speakers. Paul ![]() ![]()
