SC to IROC/RSR backdate...

My plan was to keep a detailed up to date build of my car, but as things go it turned out that I really didn't have as much free time as I thought.. So as I was keeping track with pictures they just kept adding up on my laptop. So I'm going to try and bring you guys up to speed with what we have been working on here..

This fall I brought my SC down to a fellow Pelican member and a old high school friends restoration shop. www.sports-car-restoration.com . Matt Mcginn owns this shop and builds some pretty crazy lightweight BMW 2002s. So our plan was to strip it down to its bare minimum. We removed the ac, most of the interior, yanked all the stereo and speakers, and did a complete sunroof delete. We are going for a IROC/RSR look and replacing most of the body with fiberglass. Matt decided to use steel on the rear flares for finish and ease of repair.

This winter we will concentrate on body/paint/cage/ and suspension. We will be adding Rebel Racings RSR coil overs and as we speak Al Reed is finishing a set of 8.5/10 fuchs that Clint built for me..

Here is a link to Matt Mcginns shop gallery that has over 100 plus photos of my project.. http://s94994139.onlinehome.us/gallery/album08?page=1

I hope you guys enjoy the photos and the updates and I will try and update often.

Jay

That's incredible work on the cage... and the rest of the welding around the car flares/roof/etc . Excellent!

Jack Olsen 03-19-2007 11:26 AM

Who made the wheels?

shamrockcustoms 03-19-2007 11:58 AM

Clint at Rebel Racing made the wheels for me. Im leaving the polished lip and having Al Reed refinish the centers in black.

Jay

mb911 03-19-2007 12:06 PM

man the wheels look great.. Does he machine the weld down after welding??

What size are they?

shamrockcustoms 03-19-2007 06:20 PM

Hey Jack they are 8.5 inches in the front and 10 inches for the rear.. and they are going to be bolted together not welded...

Jay

randywebb 03-19-2007 09:37 PM

Hey -- there's a Fuchs wheel down at the bottom of that funnel!

Jack Olsen 03-19-2007 11:14 PM

Are they 16's or 17's?

shamrockcustoms 03-20-2007 05:20 AM

They are 17s Jack...I would have preferred to keep them 16s, but as everyone agrees 17s will be easier on tire choices down the road.

Wow! Coming along nicely... I think you need to keep the Warpig logo and incorporate it somehow..

Looking great Jay! Glad to see that the parts all made it there safely and found their way onto the car. I have to agree that the warpig should stay on the car in some form, even if you had vinyl decals made. Hope the project is going well!

shamrockcustoms 08-13-2007 07:15 PM

Hello Clint...should be able to get your cores in the mail by the end of the week.... Ive been raising a crow with a broken wing and the guys at the shop have been telling me I need to do a crow graphic now..LOL

shamrockcustoms 08-13-2007 07:18 PM

BTW I cannot even start to explain how amazing the craftsmanship and ease of dealing with Clint over at Rebel racing is... If you need anything at all give Clint a try, you will not be disappointed...

thanks again and talk soon

well we ran into a snag this week..the front mount oil cooler is on backorder(and we are shooting to get it on the road by the 25th)..So after a little thought and modification of the rsr valence we were able to make use of the old one for now..

what's up with the oil lines sticking out through the bumper? kinda ruins the look of the front end IMO.

Lets see some more pictures - I love the matte black finish, it looks brilliant!

Superman 08-24-2007 02:30 PM

Cool. Nice work. What color(s) will you paint it?

Jays72T 08-24-2007 02:43 PM

WOW, looks great. Leave it flat blk.

Superman 08-24-2007 02:56 PM

Flat black does look MEAN.

It looks like this car started out to be one of those interesting metallic brown colors, which are cool. My car is one of those colors, which works great for a street car. I've always imagined that a track car is a nice place for some LOUD paint.

At any rate, it's going to be a fun car. And beautiful whether you paint it or not.

we are going to paint it a color called olive tate..its a baur house paint color.. I kept grabbing the same color sample whenever I went into home depot...it really was a great color to start off with..copper brown metallic.... I have full iroc graphics for it in black once we are done..

I have to agree the flat black looks great, Im really loving it... Matt the owner of Sports car restoration over in Mildale CT.. put a piece of masking tape on the bumper that reads.. "no its not finished yet.." LOL

Thanks guys, I will post a ton more pics this weekend..

Jay

shamrockcustoms 08-26-2007 11:48 AM

Well I guess we sort of strayed away from the IROC look a little... after removing the drip rails it looked so smooth that the flat lid just flowed a bit better.. I do have the IROC tail to finish for track days still and who knows once I put it on it probably will stay.. We got it on the road and all the bugs worked out this saturday and it ran great... the handling is just amazing its just a completely different car altogether... Heres a bunch more photos from this weekend. check out the aluminum strips on the rear window, filed nice and smooth...

Well we are going to iron out a few more bugs this week and hit Limerock for labor day.. then it comes apart again so we can modify the trunk lid to vent the oilcooler over the top.. some engine work..and paint
