Steve Wong Chip in a stock Carrera 88 3.2
I'm thinking about getting a Steve Wong chip for my completely stock 88' 3.2 engine. The only thing not stock on my car is the body which is a turbo-look. I also noticed that it has the turbo exhaust which I believe is just a cosmetic upgrade. My mehcanic seem sto believe that a dual exhaust tip was added.
What am I to expect with this chip? What I would like to see an improvement on is my throttle response, when I step on that gas, the car thinks for a half second then goes, should this be an instantaneuos repsonse form the car and will the chip improve this? I would also like to see a wider power range. It seem slike the car really wakes up after 4,000 RPM. A little more acceleration pull would be nice too. If I can clearly feel a differenc ein these areas with my stock engine then I think it's worth the purchase. Any thoughts? |

Buy it You will NOT be sorry I just put one on my 87. My next purchase will be a neck brace for unsuspecting passengers.

Ditto what troy said! I have a 3.2 in my middie with the SW chip. I live at 5300' and my throttle response is perfect! The 964 cams in my motor really jump at 3000 RPM. Steve's chip is an excellent upgrade for your car's performance. I don't know exactly how it works but my top end is somewhere over 150... I say somewhere because my old girl and I have never gone that fast before! I got off it at about 6300... I am in love all over again. You won't regret installing a Wong chip.

I have an 88 3.2 carrera, stock except for euro pre-muff and M&K 1 and 1.
A little over a year ago I installed one of Steve's Chips, simply the best bang for the buck. The things that you said you are looking for are the exact things I have noticed with the Chip. Wider power band, quicker throttle response...............overall better drive ability, in the rpm ranges we all have to drive in. A year later and I don't regret making the purchase ![]()

Paul,
The more information you give Steve the better. It really helps to send hin what your exhaust is, elevation you most drive at, fuel you use (get ready for premium if you're not already there), cams and anything else you can to have hin set your chip up for your specific car and use. You can have him set your rev limiter where you want it. okay, I'll shut up..

I am local to Steve and drove over to his place. He was extremely helpful and assisted in the installation process. Chip works great. I have an 89 911 cab - all stock. The only thing I noticed and it may not be related at all is that sometimes the idle will wonder around when I first start up the 911 in cold weather (high 40s - low 50s in LA). But everything seems fine now.

Steve´s long chipping arm has reached all the way to Sweden. Put a chip in my stock 85 Euro. Factory quoted 231 hp feels more like 250 now.
![]() Steve was very patient and nice and I would not hesitate to recommend his products. First class!
