a-arm removal and indexing...
If I'm removing my entire front suspension (for replacing bushings, ball joints, etc), do I have to index the current configuration at all? I know what the ride height was prior to putting it on jack stands. I've got the drivers side tie rod off, caliper off, hub off and I'm ready for the next step.
Cheers, Todd

You do if you are looking to lower your cars ride height. I am sure one of the more experienced guru's will chime in with a, 1 tooth = .xx" reduction in height.
If you have an adjustment set point, you will want to set that at its middle point, in case of later fine tuning of raising or lowering the car.

It's not that big of a deal take it apart and when you put it back together you will see wether it is too far one way or another. try to get the adjuster some where in the middle so you can adjust up or down.

What do I index though? The current point of the height adjustment bolt?

Just take pictures of the torsion bar adjustment end caps before you pull them off. Then put them back on in the same position. You can then fine tune the ride height back to the original using the adjustment screws.
The other stuff doesn't really matter, as you'll of course need a full alignment when you get it back together. |

Ah... ok, this makes sense since that is what the adjustment screw "rides" against. Thanks 'the'!

"Indexing" refers to the position of the adjustment end cap on the torsion bar.
Example - if you have the adjustment screw adjusted all the way out, but you still want the car lower, you have to remove the end cap and "reindex" it one tooth over to get more adjustment range. |

I just did mine.
Here is what I found in the archives: Place caps on Tbars with 'arm' to accept height adjuster bolt set at 4 or 8 O'clock depending on what side you are working on. Then insert the bolt until about 10mm show. Mine was a little low, but close, so a good estimate. LOTS of info in the archives ![]() -Chris
