busted nut on the back of turbo :(
So I am trying to install a zork tube on my 79 930. I got the bumper off without any issues. I started to work on the bolts that hold the muffler on. I got one bolt all the way out, which i thought was weird.
So i started on the next one and the bolt broke. ![]() I have no idea what to do next I have a DE on Saturday that i would really really like to do. What should i do? Any help would be greatly greatly appreciated. Thanks, Scott

Scott,
this is fairly common due to the high heat of the turbo causing the threads to gall and the stud itself to become brittle. You can get carbide drill bits and drill out the strud progressively larger until you can use an easy out or dental pic or the like to fish out the threads remaining in the turbo housing. If you can get the turbo off it may make it easier to drill in a press. Once out, repalce the studs and use the proper nuts and you should be good to go. Alternatively, the Zork weighs so little, that three studs should support it with no problem until you can ptroperly make the repair. JP

Thanks again for your help. I am going to try and get the bolt back in and tighten the other two. I think with three bolts it should be ok, the muffler has a strap so the weight is not on the flange. Then next week when I am not pressed for time I will drill out and replace all four of the bolts. Thanks again, Scott PS, pray that i don't break anything else

I had that happen on mine as well, I went a few months with only 3 bolts and it was fine (I had a little more popping off throttle that usual, but nothing major). when I got around to it, I removed the rest of the bolts and took the muffler off so I can access the leftover of the stud. I then heated it cherry red with a torch and remove it with a pipe wrench. It came right out. Stay away from drilling it if you can. I also recommend using penetrating oil a few days prior to you attempting to do this (twice a day).

Mark is correct. (good eyes) I was thinking that the stud sheared off flush with the housing. If you can get a wrench on the stud and turn it out you will be much better off. I have had to drill out the studs on my factory wastegate and it is not fun. JP

Well i didn't break the other bolts... so i think i am good for now.
thanks for all the info...I am sure i will ask a few questions before i try to remove the broken stud next week. I have a few weeks off after saturday so i am going to take my time.
