Argh, my SC died on me and wont start
Another my car wont start.....
Driving my (1982) SC home for lunch, the engine missed twice then ran fine. Just as I got home the engine just died, I was close enough to coast into my driveway at least. I waited a few minutes and then tried to start it up, it will turn over just fine but wont fire so I suspect fuel related. Had to get back to work. I've done a few searches on this and found a bunch of info, trying to sort it out. Could be the red fuel relay, as I understand it this should buzz with the key at the first position, correct? If its not buzzing I can temporarily try the horn relay to see if it will start? If the relay seems ok then I should see if I'm getting fuel, take out the air filter, crank the engine and lift the plate in the air box, only then should I be able to hear the fuel pump, is that right? Thanks for any feed back, may have more questions later. (Oh I had the engine out 4 weeks ago to replace the clutch, has been running great up till now. And I just put on new tires last night, maybe thats the problem!) Jay

Can you tell if the fuel pump is working. Most fuel pumps are loud enough that you can hear them when you are starting them up.
Horn relay should work in there if it's a relay problem. Of course, if you pulled the engine, check that you have the wiring harness pushed down properly. Like you said, fuel issue is most likely candidate.

old saying on here goes something like 'most fuel-related problems turn out to be ignition..' don't rule it out.

I think I have the problem solved and it was simple.
Took out the fuel pump fuse, just to make sure it was making a good connection. When I put it back in I noticed that it was just barely staying in, the gap is too wide. So I made a jumper wire across the fuse connection, car started right up. So now I'll go back out and close that gap, gently, and make sure the connection is tight. I checked all the rest and this is the only one loose. Thanks for the suggestions. Jay

while you are in there, clean all your fuse connections so that you don't chase some ghosts in the future. glad she is running
