1973 911 Seat Belt Anchor Points

Having removed the carpet from my 1973 MY 911 (built October 1972), I cannot locate any pre-threaded seat belt holes on the sills or centre tunnel. I was told there should be !

I am wanting to install harness belts, but was considering using these mounting points by the side of the seat - however I can get plates welded to the sills / centre tunnel for eyes.

just wanting to check the spec. for the 1973 US cars.

Ian

Ian,

The seat belts on my '73.5 911T were attached to the seats, not the floor. That car had sport seats...don't know if it was the same with regular seats.

Ian,

As already noted, in 1973, the belts were attached to the seats.

What seats do you have in your car? If they are the stock ones, there should be some ears on the sides of the seats that serve as anchor points. If they are aftermarket, you will need to fab something up.

In my 73 I replaced the stock seats with ones from a 1977. I needed to get adapter plates to which I added seat belt anchor points.

This thread shows the stock setup: Question for 73 911 owners

I have stock seats with the anchor points on the seat mounts / runners.

I just wanted to check that not having anchor points on the bodyshell was correct.

Thanks,

Ian

Ian..
I confirm that...The anchor point for the seat belts up front are on the seats. I have t he original "bench type " seat in my 73.5T. You cannot get to them unless you pull the seat out. Its a pretty hefty bolt that screws in just so far thus allowing the anchor to swivel a bit. The coiled end of course is attached in the rear seat area.

Rear seat belts may have been an option back then. Their are no attachments points for the rear belts unless you bolt thru the body. Luckily for me my kids are in their late teens and twenties and cannot fit in the back!!

Good luck

73.5T
Hi Bob,

FYI, the 73.5 tub has the threaded holes for the rear lap belts already in place.

Bob,

It looks like I'm in the same boat with regards to mounting a harness on a pre-74 tub. In my case, I have soft fuel lines running under the tunnel and cannot easily weld there. Some aftermarket seat mounts have mounging holes... Just curious as to how you're going to tackle this ?

Fernando...
I do not plan on adding a rear seatbelt or an upgraded front type harness. I have the front seat factory set up with inertia reel belt system anchored to the rear side panels (inside and behind the seats) and the front seat belt attachment anchor bolted to the seat. Standard set up. I had to buy two new inertia reel belts as the originals were wasted!!
