how low is too low?
been playing around with my ride height (thanks to the new SAW plates). waddya guys think? maybe a little too low? I can hardly get my floor jack under it. I think I'll raise it a 1/4" or so just because I'll be driving in the real world. almost ready to put it on the road, it may have actually finished snowing now. If it doesn't rub, I'd leave it right there. Looks sweet.

+1, ZOANAS. I think it looks good. My car is pretty low (no rubbing). I think they look better that way...

looks great! "1973 911T coupe, 2.7L, webers, silver. really silver. as in EVERYTHING silver." ??? I guess the chrome trim on the windshield is still to come then... :-) ( and how about those wipers?) |
thanks ZOANAS! no rubbing but it's at about 2-1/2 degress neg camber, which I can live with. I really like the stance right now. with the SAW plates and bushings I'm hoping to not get the camber changes that were causing rubbing previously due to worn out rubber bushings. what the h$ll, I'll run it like it is and find a lower floor jack. Don.

Geronimo, I took out the chrome windshield trim to pull back the rubber for paint then guess what? it DOESN"T go back in without taking the glass out. I'll live with the black until I need a new shield. do you know of a silver paint that will stick to the tires? Don.
|
In my experience, which is limited to painting the letters, paint or ink does not stick very well to rubber for a long time.
At least it did not on my tires, started cracking and discolouring pretty quick. |
Car looks really good as it is. What size wheels are those? 7 and 8 x16?
Brian |
Oh and what size tires?
|
wheels are 7 and 8 by 15. tires are 195/55 and 205/50. fender lips are rolled under, NO flaring front or rear. the 8's are a challenge to fit, hence the small tire sizes. Don.
|
Depending on the car's usage (track vs street), you may wanna set the camber appropriately. 2-1/2 deg might wear out street tires pretty quickly.
|
street use only. I'm not concerned about wearing out tires but 2-1/2 is the only way I could fit the 8's without flares.

Car should have a slight front rake. Yours?
Lift the car with a scissors or bottle jack under a jack plate on the side receiver, high enough to slide your floor jack underneath as always. Sherwood |
has a slight front rake, about 1/2" down at front. checked with a 4 foot level along the door sill and extending the line to measure at the wheel. I am so accustomed to using a floor jack I didn't even think of using the jack spurs to get clearance ( sound of palm smacking forehead). thanks Sherwood! Don.

haycait, FYI the chrome/black or whatever color trim is what REALLY holds the windshield in correctly with that style of windshield seal. W/O the trim installed your windshield is going adios if if you hit something, you get a large positive air pressure flow in the cabin or could even exit with car flex on a fast tight turn.
|
The car looks great. If any comment; I would lower the front a tad, just to give a little nose down. Doing that, it might even bring the back up a little. My 2c.

Shoepop, I've found some black rubber tubing that I can just manage to squeeze into the channel, I think that'll hold until replacement time.
