Front suspension adjustment bolt is....

broken off. Where would I find such bolt ? here is a pic
I found out when checking heights , passenger side a bit higher , took a few turns to loosen, then I looked on the other side to compare, no bolt end broken off.

Pcar dealer. Not sure if this is a special bolt. Don't think so.

the "adjusting screw" is a special square headed, angle tipped bolt that was blessed by Martin Luther before he decided to use a nail to post his witticisms on the church door....

- try a junk yard or count out a couple of twenty dollar bills FOR EACH ONE

Note your crossmember is also broken, right were the screw head is supposed to pass through.

Looks like the screw hooked something and ripped off, taking part of the crossmember with it.

That little missing piece of crossmember is the only thing that keeps the adjusting cap from sliding off the torsion bar, so it really is important. You should replace or repair your crossmember.

+1 on the cross member note.

You can source the adjuster bolt and cap all for about $25 from Parts Heaven here in Hayward. They shipped me one to my door in two days.

+2 w/Chuck.
You should check the entire cross member. It looks like something hit that spot and sheared off the head of the adjusting bolt and could possible - at the same time - crack teh cross member.

+3 on Chucks advise.. That tbar retainer, when unsprung ( on a jack or on the track) without that adjustment screw CAN FALL OFF very easily. Replace the cross member.

For those with eyes not as sharp as Chuck's, here is what is missing.

There is a part of the cross member between the red arrows that
captivates the adjusting screw. Without that broken piece in
place, the entire adjuster and screw can come off the end of the
torsion bar. This would result in the suspension colapsing.

Best,
Grady

Mine broke when I decided to take a drive through a ditch. A local welding shop did a nice job of repairing it for about $10 or $15.

The local Porsche garage said it could be up to 2 hours work at 90.00/h to weld and replace the bolt. ofcourse it tepends how quickly they can get the bolt off. the welding shop sounds like a better deal!!
thanks, I will cancel my appt with the garage. !!!
thanks again,
peter
