Help! Installing Rennline Front Tow Hook, cant' get old torsion bar cover off???

I am trying to add these

Rennline Front Tow Hook (they assured me that it will be okay on my track car even with a really low ride height.)

My car used to be flat bar towed. The reciever mechanism is welded to the front torsion bar covers? See picture. All three bolts are out on both sides.....but it still does not want to come off???? What am i doing wrong. Also, what is the best jack point to jack up the front of the car when not using torsion bar covers?

Matt

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am leaving around noon tommorow for the GGR time trial at Thunderhill.

Looks like the outer cover is welded to the bushing carrier - so you need to grind off the weld to get the outer cover off.

I'll try to find a pic of the jackstand placement...

The circle areas are the jack points - search "jack placement", or "jackstand placement" to find more info...

Hey Matt,
In the first shot there looks to be a small weld between the body and the flat tow. You should check it and make sure they didn't tack weld the flat tow to the body. I had a trailer hitch co. make this set up for Ken's car. If it's not welded (and it shouldn't be) then try prying the tow bar. It could be the pressure on the a arms with the car sitting on the ground pinching the tow bar. If they did weld it, you'll need to take a cut off wheel on a grinder and cut the weld.
If you can't get it off I can look at it at the track.

Hey guys. Thanks for all the information. I'll take another look in the morning. I don't think it is welded to the body. Harold, I think you are right that pressure from the A arms is holding it on because when I apply pressure it does move away from the body....I just can't get it to come off and don't want to risk forcing it just ahead of 3 days of track time. I'll see you at the track.

Matt
