Some ALMS Spyder pictures from today
In St pete, fresh off the card....
I am always amazed at the access spectators like me have at ALMS events... I could have jumped in the RS spyder and left, if I could start it before those 5 guys clubbed me to death ;-) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() PS: the R8 road car is nice but it does not "do it" for me somehow. Not sure what it is... The R8 race car is really strange in that its noise is 100% covered by whichever car is near it ;-) When you can hear it by itself it's quite nice but like 10% of the volume of the rest of the field !!! |

The black RS Spyder was just the 07 prototype before all of the sponsor stickers/colors.

Greg,
Please do me (us) a favor and ask the mechanics what the Type Numbers are for the car (VIN), engine and transmission. Best, Grady

Is there a joke I am missing there? Not sure.... At any rate, sorry, I'm home now... I went on friday (less crowd, better access, $10 tix), I plan to watch the race on TV now... Are you planning on building a car with an RS spyder motor ? It sure sounds good and has a nice solid idle compared to the P1 prototypes ! |

If you did manage to jump in the LMP-2 Porsche, these are the controls you'd be playing around with...

Re: Some ALMS Spyder pictures from today
The R8 is a lotta car for the money, I don't care if a Ferrari or R8 or any other exotic that is more powerful, fell into my lap, if you gave me one of them I'd sell it and buy a 997 GT3 RS, the dream car I'll never be able to afford.
Nice photos. Thanks for posting them. I remember the R10 last year at Petit LeMans, we were at the bottom of the back straight during Thursday night practice, right at the braking boards for the chicane before the bridge. You'd see the R10 headlights coming, and you'd hear WIND NOISE before any sort of engine noise. It was downright eery. I can't wait for this year's event. 5 RS Spyders and a gaggle of 997s. Acura brought their game bigtime, it's going to be a great season.

So David, who you rooting for in LMP2, Porsche or Acura ;-)
lemme guess.... (nah,I don't need to, I think I know) Go Dyson ! I am really happy Rob has hooked back up with the factory after all these years, especially the recent ones being the only real LMP1 team to take the fight to the Audis. It's clear from today's qualifying times that Penske is still the factory team...

I spoke with one of the Audi crew members at an ALMS event and askeda bout the low noise level. Apparently the turbos muffle the noise of the engine. This is relative to the extreme noise of the other cars on the track.

Damn - I should have gone today - instead I painted my garage porsche colors - that should count for something.

Watch for Audi to throw a real fit. They were not happy after Sebring. They said the LM P2 cars were too fast. Now that Penske smoked them all hell is about to break loose.

The guy leaning on the rear wing is a long time friend and coworker from the Champ Car days -- His name is Don Texter -- cool to see him in pics from time to time
