Accidental CASIS repair

I had been surprised that the PO had disabled the upshift light in my ’85, but it never illuminated, ever. Cleaning up in the front trunk near the gas strut on the driver’s side, I found two wires, one black, on brown, with spade connectors, and doubled black and brown wires connected to the spade. The insulation had worn somehow, leaving about an inch of unprotected wire, and it looked like they were likely shorting. Not knowing what they were for, I wrapped each in electrical tape and forgot about them. Taking the car out for a drive, the upshift light worked just as annoyingly as it is supposed to – for the first time in my ownership.

I’m guessing that one or both wires carry the signal to the CASIS.

Now that I’ve fixed it, does anyone know if I can disable it by disconnecting one of these wires, maybe the black? I understand that it can be disabled by removing the black wire from the tach.

Thanks

Paul

The black wire. Disconnect it to disable the CASIS light. (It will still light at the rev limit though.)
