Power Mirror Motor Disassembly?
Hi everyone,
I noticed that one of my power mirrors seemed to be binding a bit. The motor runs, but it doesn't move, and in other directions moves with resistance. So, I removed the mirror glass and took the 3 bolts out to separate the rubber part of the mirror that contains the motor from the metal housing that attaches to the car. On the steel plate that is behind the mirror glass there are 4 rivets that attach it to something.?. I would assume that if I could remove this steel plate, I could gain access to the motor and innerworkings to check and lubricate this mechanism so that it may move more freely (assuming nothing is broken within..gears, etc). Have any of you ever drilled out these rivets and if so, is the motor then accessible or is there yet another plate? The motor seems sealed from the back side in plastic, just wondering if I'm pissin in the wind by taking the steel plate out or if this will give me access to the motor/transmission for the power mirror. I don't find the price for a new motor/transmission mirror assembly very appealing (about $200 each). Thanks in advanvce for replies.
