Jack- (and anyone else) how do you like the Rennspeed panels?

Hey Jack,
Just spent another session gawking at your site. I do it once a month or so to keep me going with my project .
I noticed you got some of your panels from RennSpeed. Did this include the ducktail? I had an opportunity to see their front and rear RS bumpers first hand this weekend, and am really impressed. I'd like to know if the ducktail is as nice as these other panels. Unless new information is brought to light, I'm going to order my RSR front and rear bumpers and RS ducktail from these guys.

As far as the project car goes: I've received the steel turbo flares and am getting started with those soon. I need the bumpers to make sure we're lining up panels right. On the downside, the body shop royally f*cked up the cowl repair panels and now has to rework them. As soon as they're done with that, I'm bringing the car home and finishing the metalwork in my own garage. Thanks for all the support!

Thanks for gawking. It's the only way I get to see my car, a lot of the time, too.

I was very pleased with my RS-style rear bumper from Rennspeed. I was slightly less pleased, but still okay, with the ducktail. To my eye, there was a little waviness across the back of the panel, which I wasn't crazy about.

Still, I think it looked fine on the car. I've actually recently had it replaced (at least temporarily) with a 964 decklid and retractable spoiler. I know I'm drifting far from the classic Carrera RS look, but I like the fastback rear end, and the 964 lid allows me to have that and still get downforce at speed.

I think the best ducktails are the metal ones with only the spoiler made of fiberglass, but they cost more than twice as much as the all-fiberglass ones. See one here.

As I said, the Rennspeed tail was good, but not as great as I thought their bumper was.

Hey all,

My name is patrick, i don't post very often but i do read this board almost every day. I am nearing completion of my car a 1970 911T FYI(w/ steel 9" front and 11"rear turbo flares---new exhaust, intake, ported heads, solex cams, dual webers, etc..)

Sorry i am just so excited to get the engine put back and drive the car again.

On the the reply... I ordered front and rear RSR bumpers from Rennspeed...I am not sure if it was the steel flares(which came from Germany) or the fiberglass pieces, but they sure were not direct "Bolt-ons". Much modification had to be done to the bumpers to fit rite...luckily i have a perfectionist, "body genius" workin on my unibody.

I got my RS america rear wing from RS design, which was really inexpensive, and fit great!

Hey Jack - Do have any shots of your car with the retractable spoiler (ideally up and down). Love the idea of this upgrade as I too like the fast back look. By the way, what’s the story with the map pockets on the doors, they look great!

Thnx for the quick reply. The wavy back o'the tail is the same thing I noticed on a tail I saw this weekend, but I don't know the manufacturer. The workmanship seemed much different than the RennSpeed panels I saw. So what did you do? Use some filler to smooth out the surface?

So when you say they were not bolt on, do you mean that where the bumpers are supposed to meet flush with the flares? Was there a visible difference there? What was done to rework the bumpers, if you know? I'm starting to learn about metalwork, but haven't dabbled with fiberglass mods yet. Don't really want to!

Paul, I don't have any photographs of the new decklid and tail, yet. I'm waiting for oil cooler and heating work to get finished. Having seen it, though, I think it looks great. I had worried about the car's old styling and decklid spoiler's new styling not matching up. I didn't need to. It looks cool.

Dave, I didn't do anything to fix it. It had already been painted by the time I got to see it. It wasn't bad -- probably only noticeable to me, and only at the right angle. But you know how infuriating that can be...

Was your RS america rear wing bolt on your existing lid, or were it and the lid one piece?

Does RS design have a web page?
