Replacing Front Bumper Guards
What is the process to replace the front bumper guards on a 70 911? Must the whole front bumper be removed?
Thanks in advance, Robo

Sorry, yeah, they are held by bolts through the bumper from the backside

Having just reinstalled the bumper on my 911T,I would say yes,the bumper needs to be removed. Not real hard to do.
Do you mean the two chrome pieces? Or the trim pieces that go all the way across? At any rate you're going to be dealing with 40 year old rusty nuts and bolts in places that are impossible to get to. (Can you say busted knuckles?) To remove the trim piece,I ground the nuts off and replaced the with stainless steel with Neverseize. I always figure I might be back into this someday and I don't want to go through the same rusty nuts and bolts. "Cheers" Roadslayer '70 pickup. And 2 cats. |

'Whoa!' Let me add something. I just checked my '69T. On the inside of the trunk are 2 access holes behind each bumper piece. Giving access to two bolts that I believe "may" allow you to remove the chrome bumper thingies. "However",my car has 3 bolts that are,yes,3 different sizes, and the center bolt is inaccessable from the inside. The upper and lower 2 may allow you to remove the bumpers. My manual(s) show 2 bolts, but of course mine has to have 3.

I just did this last night. Assuming that your car is identical to my '72 911T, you access the bolt through the hole indicated by the arrow in the photo. It requires one of those star-type (6 point) sockets.
![]() You do not need to remove the bumper.
