24 Volt 911
Hi
I have a 24 Volt battery charger for my truck, I connected it to my 911 3.0 1975 and stupidly forgot to switch it to the 12 Volt setting for cars. Left it on for a few minutes. The battery checked out fine so it obviously survived. But the same can not be said for the charge system, the car started and ran fine, but it is no longer charging, the red light stays on. I've checked the voltage at the battery terminals both stopped and running and it is lower when the car is running. Any ideas of what the may need replacing, regulator, fuse etc ? Thanks Niall

prob. the diodes in the Voltage regulator - that is ext. on a '75
not a whole lot of other sensitive electronics on the early CIS cars so you may be in luck check all light bulbs too

Yeah I changed the voltage regulator for a known to be working unit from a similar car.
Still the charge light does not go out when the car is running and at high revs. Is it possible the alternator is damaged and if so is it an easy fix?

Diodes in the alternator. Its not a big deal to fix and not that expensive.
How many miles on the alternator? Its probably time to overhaul it and replace the diode pack at the same time.

- sounds like the diodes are in the alt. & it is the Vreg that is external
I agree you should probably just pull it and take it to an elec. shop
