Speedo Needle Removal ?

I have a 71 and need to remove the Needle on my Speedometor to fix my odometor, it is miscalibrated. How does the Needle come off, I tried pulling on it but it didnt budge and I dont want to break it.

Thanks

I would suggest Powls Sspeedometer in Lancaster Pa or Palo Alto Spedo in Ca., Not sure it is diy stuff, although i cant blame you for trying.I am having powls do a MotoMeter for a BMW twin i own $150 full rework/synch.

If I remember correctly you have to mark exactly where the speedo needle lays. Then you can twist it too far one way then too far the other way until it is loose enough to pull off. That is what I did with a tach recently and what I read when I did a search, but I haven't put the tach back together yet.

Mitch, I have a speedo/tach needle puller tool you can borrow if you wish. Did the trick on my '86's when I did repair and changed gauge faces, and I've had a few other folks use it as well. Where y'at? I'm up north in SHV/Bossier, but I guess I could mail it to you.

Thanks Roux, I was able to use 2 Small screwdrivers from opposite sides of the Collar on the needle and pry it off.

Heres my new issue. The reason for dissassmbly is bc my Odometor/ Tripometor didnt work. I now know why.

The Shaft going through the Odometor Numbers should be Flanged on One End (the RIGHT side of the numbers) allowing it to "grab" the Metal Grey "gear" (location - touching the First number on the right). thus turning both the Trip and Odo.
Since mine doesnt have this flange anymore the Shaft just spins Freely inside the #'s as the Speedometor cable drives it.
Anyone have any ideas as to how I can "Flange/Enlarge" the end of the Shaft going throught the #'s , to have it Seat to the metal Grey Gear?
