Turbo flares

gulf blue rsr 04-18-2007 03:05 PM

At last, car loaded on trailer ready for early start in the morning off to the paint shop, a mate of mine is doing the finishing paint for me but his shop is 2 hour drive from me so 5 hours sleep and off I go SmileWavy

SoCal, sharp eyes for spotting the catch tray, I thought I had it covered, I'd got a perfect shaped stainless steel dog bowl all ready to weld on but as I've got a fibreglass bonnet and had to build the downstand up to get some strength to it inside the hole, now the dog bowl is too small diameter :( so untill it comes back from the paint shop the filler cap is not welded just pushed over the neck till I get time to either source a new bowl or fix rubber rim around the small one to make up the size.

Perhaps I will stay away from the coil overs till I've done more research, I'm on the trail of a full set of turbo brakes and suspension, I might just settle for that....... go with the easy life ;)

There's some really hot cars on here, hopefully one day mine will catch up !!!

Although it looks finished it unfortunately isn't.

Still have wiring and oil pipes to do as well as a few other small bits and pieces. It has been nearly 3 years in the making but an 8 month wait for a part from Porsche Germany and a broken neck in an unrelated accident slowed us down a bit.

For those of you who have been following the progess i promise to post more pictures soon from where i last left off till we got to this stage.

One day i hope to drive this and as well as my 944 turbo cup as soon as i have fully recovered, until then I will just ride shotgun which beats the hell out of not riding at all.

this photo was taken at a local car show were the car went on a trailer at special request from the organisers as they loved it when they saw it at my mechanics garage.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1176939224.jpg

go to your kitchen stockist and look for a teflon lined frying pan in aluminum- seems to be just the right size!

Thanks SoCal! ;)

I didnt' even think to look there for flares..

I did call RD earlier today and found out they import their flares from Germany (most likely Dansk anyways) and they are out for at least a month....

Hopefully I'm not too late to get in on a set of those from your link...

Thanks again!!!

WOW!!

MarkMW 04-22-2007 11:32 AM

I had to give you all a quick update - my stickers arrived on Friday - so I just had to apply them this weekend - in fact I was told that I HAD to by Mark Darby - who is responsible for the paint job :) .

Incidentally - Mark (also known as Gary) who runs www.rs-911.co.uk , has just started to manufacture steel RSR flares , so if you are looking , it's worth contacting him.

Anyway - here's the latest progress pics :

Heh MarkMW, car looks great. How about some more info on suspension, brakes, engine etc plus photos. Orange looks darker than mine but it could just be the lighting.

best regards

Looking good!! Keep the pics coming!

I finally got a chance to install the bumper and hood this weekend. Wouldn't you know it, after closing the hood for the first time, now it won't open... Arghhhh!

I've done this on more than one occasion. After popping up the hood I've had success using a 10mm wrench and slowly loosening the hood latch bolts a few mm at a time.

The car looks great btw...

Good luck with the flares HelmetHead, I'm glad it worked out for you.

Thanks for the tip on the hood Scott, I hope to get it open before I consider cutting/drilling holes to get to the locking mechanism.

Thanks for the compliment as well, it's long overdue, but I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel :)

Looking superb! Has it seen the light of day? Does it roll under its own power?

I think everyone here needs to read Keith Seume's column this month in 911 & Porsche World. He says tht a Replica is an exact copy. Unless the cars in this thread are EXACTlY the same as the original in ever single way they're simply not replicas.

Unless the car has the same serial number, and was originally built during the same time period it's NOT a replica. It's a recreation. or an imitation. At best all of these cars in this thread are modified cars. They're just imitating something that they're not. Which is not a bad thing.

Before you get all upset please read his column. It's very interesting and he has some very solid points. Don't argue with me. BTW - i think I have his email if you really get all bent out of shape after reading his column.

Thanks... It's looking a lot like your avatar :)

It has yet to see the light of day. The tires on the front are shot... it's a miracle they hold air. I borrowed them from a local porsche shop and they must've been sitting in the sun for 10 years. The rears should be OK. My friend has a spare set of 6s and 7s with tires in good shape, so I'll see about borrowing 2 for the front and take it out for a spin.

It's been almost 2 months and my lindsey wheels are not ready, there was a hold up on the 9 inch barrels. They should be ready by the end of May.

SoCal70RSR 04-23-2007 12:23 PM

Richard... No harm done, thanks for pointing it out. My mistake for choosing the wrong word in the title of the thread.

When it's all said and done.... they're all porsches :)

Facey 04-23-2007 01:24 PM

always seems wierd that people care what other people call their cars.

but, its even wierder when they are commenting on cars that are to the same idea.

The proper definition of replica is "a copy made by the person who made the original", though it is now commonly used to refer to any copy.

when the use of a word changes so does it actual meaning. I don't think people are running around calling homosexual's a bundle of sticks....

i don't think the porsche factory would be insulted at all to call these cars RSR's....let alone RSR replica or clone....

these cars are being completed/built to such a high standard, and though they are modified, they are modified to look like, and drive like something else... they are closer to being rsr's then they are to being anything else.

DW SD 04-23-2007 02:54 PM

Somehow we can arrange for you to use my wheels and tires, if need be.
No one here is passing their car off for sale as the real deal RSRs, so who cares what they are called?

Your car is looking damned good, amigo!

Doug
