Rough start
My car has just recently changed its tune on initial startup. It's almost like it's cold natured a little now. When I first crank, the idle is okay... but a little rough. When I take off, it's a little lurchy and sluggish. But as soon as it gets warm, it runs like a top. I'm wondering if I've bumped something loose or have a fault somewhere causing this to happen. It doesn't seem to be too picky about the outside air temp... it just happens with the car is stone cold. Any quick and dirty places to check for problems?
Thanks. -Troy |

might help to post some engine/car particulars to start narrowing down the problem. Please mention the fuel induction method.

It's an 86 3.2 Carrera, stock Motronic FI system, sensors recently replaced, new CHT, new FI harness, new injectors, Fabspeed euro pre-muffler. It has been a daily driver for over a year.. about 60 miles a day.
Thanks. -Troy

Troy,
The temperature dependance suggests the CHT but then you say it has been replaced. Are you sure it is O.K. There are several threads here on how to test whether it reports proper values. You need a DVM and check resistance when cold. That is an easy and quick and dirty check. Did this "new behaviour" happen at the same time all these parts have been replaced or afterwards? Why do you think you "bumped something loose" Any other incident you forgot to mention. The only other quick and dirty check is an intake vacuum leak. That would cause poor running, too. Cheers, Ingo

Hmm... have had the intake off for AFM inspection recently. I guess there could be something loose there. The CHT was replaced back in December, along with the sensors in a troubleshooting effort during a no start... which happened to be an injector short out. You must have seen the 'Stranded 911' thread. Thanks for the ideas... I have some places to start.

Yeah I remember. So look for false air. That could be your issue. Good luck and keep us posted....

I have had the same issue for as long as I can remember. I too, have replaced the CHT recently, but on cold mornings, the car needs a few minutes to warm up. I know my intake barrel nuts were loose, but I have since re-torqued them for the time being and have new gaskets - for when time permits.
I am going to follow this as well. Troy, you did such a good job with your other issue, I bet you solve this in no time. Dave

I also had the same going on in my 86 3.2 until I got my ignition issues sorted out. Now runs like it's all warmed up from a cold start just like a normal car should.
