7x15 Wheel Question

Friends:

I have a set of early 1970s 7x15-in factory forged alloys on my '66 912 (I know they won't fit, but with 205/50-15s and spacers, they do), and I have a question about their center holes.

Two wheels have 70-mm center holes, and the stock Porsche center caps fit fine. The two others have 66-mm center holes, so the Porsche center caps (70-mm) are too large. I can find 70-mm caps, but when I ask if anyone knows about 66-mm caps, people look at me strangely. Does anyone here know anything about this?

The two 70-mm hole wheels are part 911 361 02 11 (the first eight numbers are forged in, and the "11" is stamped). The 66-mm center hole wheels are part number 911 361 02 01, and the "01" is stamped in.

Advice on where to find center caps would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

Frank

Frank,

The earlier, small center hole Fuchs need a three prong cap that fits into the hole, instead of the later style ring type cap. If you would like a photo of one let me know, I think I have a few in storage somewhere.

Thanks for the quick response. Yeah, I remember those pronged caps! Now where can I find two of them? Maybe in the depths of my own garage...

They are still available brand new, if you can't find them in your stash. I bought 4 not long ago for about $25/ea. for my 4.5 x 15" Fuchs.

Richard:

Ha! When I sold you the E, I could have left the 7s on it, but the price would have been MUCH higher! Next you'll be wanting the sport seats that are in the '12. Too bad, I still fit in them!
