Porsche Crest Who had a better Saturday morning than me????

Time for a tune up.........Valve adjustment, plugs, cap, rotor, oil change, fuel filter.
Lets start by draining the oil...........
First let's go to Auto Zone and buy a 15 quart drain pan/container.(BAD IDEA!!!)

Drove to the store to buy a Torque wrench, came home and drained the oil which melted a quarter size hole in the bottom of this (made in China) piece of $hit.......
Oh Yes!!!!! Count them.......7 quarts of oil on my garage floor.......grab the parer towels, grab the shovel.......luckily for me; I just happen to have a yard of sand leftover in my yard from a landscape project. Quick thinking and a handy shovel saved the day from a possible catastrophe......
Happy Saturday morning.
By the way; I got everything cleaned up, the car tuned up, and she runs great.

Spray some Simple Green on the oil stain and let it dry. Do this several time and then wash off and the stain will be gone. Don't ask me how I know this!

Spray it with WD-40 and cover it with a plastic sheet for a week. It should wash away with warm soapy water after that.

That sentiment was common among the jack stand failure crowd. Only one dissenter spoke up.

Art,
Have you tried WD40 (or any lubricant)? Works really well too. Same here, don't ask me how I know.

Fervent nationalism aside, I remember when this was the chant about products from Japan back in the 60's and 70's.

It appears that the labeling says USA. Should you be upset with China or Autozone?

How hot was the oil?

Not that the container should have melted but I am wondering, if there was a label on it stating its temperature limitations.

Take it and the pics back to Autozone and talk to the Mgr. They should pull the products from the shelves and not sell them. If he dithers, then contact the Stormwater Manager in your City govt. -- likely others are dumping oil into the rivers near you b/c of this.

Looks like they used the wrong type of plastic in a batch run...

Thats interesting... I have the same container and it works great! Nice and big to catch those errant oil streams. Are you sure the hole was not there first? I have drained hot oil after running the car hard several times... no problems.

I also had a big spill with it though... I forgot to unplug the air hole and it spilt all over my paver stones. I used a whole thing of Dawn dish soap scrubbed in after using the oil soak. then I took scalding hot water and rinsed it all off. Cant tell anything happened there...

"every thing from China.. blaw blaw blaw" - Having lived there... I can say you obviously have no idea what you are talking about...

Best regards,

Michael

Most of the Chinese food I eat is made right here in America. Quite locally, in fact.

I think I was upset with Autozone. However, they did give me a bag of automotive kitty litter, new box of parer towels, and a gallon of concrete cleaner. The floor cleaned up nice and they did refund my money for the oil pan/container.
Their story is that they have sold these for 15 years and never had this happen ever........Lucky me!
The oil was running temp hot..........by the way....no warning label or temp suggestions.
Her is an after cleaning pic.

Well, remember that the oil in an air cooled engine can get a lot hotter than most vehicles oil.

Not everything there is bad you just have to spec it out correctly..

Apparently. Still, I'd go with warm/hot Chinese food and COOL/WARM oil. Or better yet, use a metal container?

It looks like a BLITZUSA oil container, and if it is it was made right here in the good ol' USA. They are known for their quality products so you must have just been unlucky.

Besides, China molds a good portion of the plastic products we buy in this country so I don't think we can blame the entire country for a faulty product.

I would like to see the whole that was melted in your can. Do you still have it?

Just a thought, but did you happen to drop a piping hot oil plug or socket into the drain pan?

That being said, the hole looks to be perfectly round with no stinging, so perhaps it was a molding error. I would think that you would need at least 300 degrees to melt clean through a good section of plastic wall.

I have two pans similar to this and have never had any problem other than overfilling.
