What Do Think of This 915 Linkage?

I made this new linkage from a nice universal joint I found in my toolbox.

Anyone think it will make a big difference on my 915?

Very nice. It might transfer more vibration to the shift lever, but try it out.

I've got the car running now. I'll put the linkage in today and report back.

I think it'll make a noticeable difference. Any time you eliminate rubber bushings that you "feel," it'll tighten things up.

How did you cut the splines? They look much coarser than the original. You may not get the positive engagement offered by OEM.

Some have used donor splines cut and welded from an OEM coupler.

I used the finest knurl tool we have in our shop to cut the splines, it clamps up fine. I didn't want to destroy the original linkage until I knew this would work. It's still a work in progress right now.

Unfortunately my 'freshly rebuilt' (by me) 915 does not shift really well right now. I'm going to go back to the factory linkage until I sort out the problems. I don't need any additional sources of headaches just yet.

One issue I have is conflicting set-up instructions regarding the tranny and the CW-CCW vs which direction you are facing. I'll have to sort this problem out first.

I'll report back ASAP.

Very nice but I really do think it's hard to improve on the stock unit with the aftermarket bushing with the ROUND, not oblong, hole. Very positive feel, no slop, no vibration.

PBH's shift coupler (again, very nice) looks like it's functionally equivalent to the modified aftermarket Apex-type joints with the exception of the rubber dust cover.
