BBS Racing Magnesium Wheels (Gold)

Does BBS still make the Gold colored web style rims that were so prevalent in the 80s and 90s?

If not where are suitable places to look for them and what are the things to look for?

Yes, I did a search and did not find all my answers,

thanks

That style BBS wheel have been out of production for many years. BBS of America, had only a limited few odds and ends as far as replacement parts went. When I was in the process of having mine repaired, the only wheel parts they had were the inner portions for a 8" wide front, and they "ONLY" wanted $750.00 for it. They stated that there were no other actual wheel parts available. You could get emblems, gasket seals and the assembly bolts.

What are the more "modern" looking BBS wheels I see at track events on older 911s? They have a forged/hammered finish (not smooth) and look very cool. They are a basket weave style but it's much more open than the older BBS basketweave I have seen on some cars.

BBS RS from the 80's. try ebay. some nice sets every once in a while.

The newer BBS motorsports wheels (pic on left)

We just put a set of the newer ones on a late 930. Cant seem to warm up to the look yet. The Rs's belong on the car for a period look

Yes,

The gold ones on the bottom left is what I am after.

Are they really BBS RS? And are they magnesium or alloy?

I think the E 50 centers are MAG. Well when I put a magnet to them they dont stick and they sure dont look like aluminum.

Carsten - Those look like the E50 centers. Earlier centers are taller and have a "bevel" on them. Look closely at the pic and you'll see what I mean. Btw, you do know that you have to disassemble your wheels to remove the tires, don't you?

Two modern day options for Porsche from Fikse and BBS.

Both designs hint at old style basket weave BBS.

Fikse are manufactured in USA.

Both forged and highest quality.

Probably thinking of the LM's. Those are the most popular I see at Road Atlanta. BBS is in Braselton (just a mile down the road) and when I had my 2002 I had difficult time sourcing anything for the OEM BBS mesh 13s. They helped me out with center caps but we had to improvise. With so much effort going into the old styles to get parts, I'd ugrade if possible or stake out Ebay.

When mounting or dismounting tires, your supposed to disassemble the wheel. I think it has something to with maybe damaging the wheel if its put on a machine.

Yup..
My tyre guy stared at them and told me so as he couldnt find the groove in the rim to drop the opposite side bead into in order to pull the bead over/off the rim. If that makes sense..

So yes, hence why they are sitting in my backyard with tyres on and a new set of Fuchs replicas with my TB15s are fitted to the car now..

Are these worth anything though?.. thinking of throwing them on the 'Bay.

Carsten, what size halves do you have? I also have a set of E50 20 bolt BBS magnesium 9 & 11 inchers, that need restoration. You can see that they were originally gold. My buddy that knows alot about these wheels, mounts and dismounts without disassembling. He's been bugging me about these wheels, he wants them bad. I picked up some halves & center caps

Click on the "Flatbase or Drop Centre" link on my previous link and it seems that I have 15" centres and halves for 15" tyres.. ie no drop centre like the ones in your picture. I was thinking that If I could get a set of stepped halves, I should be able to fit 16" or even 17" tyres using the 15" centre..

If your centers are like mine, 20 bolt, you can use 15", 16" or 17" halves. I'd like to go with 17" halves, better tire selection.
