R gruppe roll call

Ok- so this probably belongs on the Early S board, but there are some R Gruppers that lurk here!
Who is going up to SLO next weekend?

Planning on leaving Thursday? I am organizing a nice "tour" of so cal roads on the way there


Here is my ride



Scheduled route- note regroup points so all can catch up and not get lost

MEET Conrad's Restaurant , 631 Foothill Bl, La Canada, 91011
8 am MAY 3 for breakfast. Drive out time 9 am
Turn right from parking lot onto Foothill,
Continue to Route 2, Turn right
Continue up straight onto Angeles Crest Highway- turn on headlamps- required
Continue past Angeles Forest turnoff
Continue approx 8 miles to Upper Big Tujunga Canyon- LEFT
Continue to Angeles Forest Highway- Turn RIGHT (Regroup point)
Continue to Hwy 14 east Palmdale direction (Regroup point)
Take Highway 14 to Palmdale Bl- Turn LEFT (west) (GAS UP here or later at Frazier Park)
Continue Lake Elizabeth Road (Palmdale Blvd becomes Lake Elizabeth) thru Lake Hughes community to T intersection - Turn LEFT
Continue to Pine Canyon (small road approx 15 miles from T intersection on your left only- big tree with clapped out Renault chassis under it on your left) Turn LEFT (regroup point)
Follow Pine Canyon thru the twisties- Turn Right at stop sign and follow down hill to Quail Lake Road- Turn LEFT
Continue to Hwy 5 and go NORTH
Follow Hwy 5 North to Frazier Park Road- Exit and turn LEFT
Gas / Pee stop (Regroup point)
Follow Frazier Park Road to Pine Mountain turn off- Turn RIGHT
Go thru Pine Mountain and road becomes Cerro Noroeste.
Follow Cerro Noroeste all the way down to 166. (someplace along the way we will stop for a regroup)
Turn RIGHT on 166
Follow 166 to Maricopa/ Taft turn off- Hwy 33- LEFT (stop sign here anyway)
Follow 33 north into Taft (youwill have to make a left turn to continue 33 into town) Gas stop / regroup Point
Follow 33 north out of Taft to Hwy 58- LEFT
Continue on 58 up thru the twisties and down the other side- Will stop for a regroup point
Follow 58 to Hwy 229- Turn right- STOP regroup point- This road is incredible and we will run it both directions- up and back!
After we run it back south- we will stop regroup, laugh ourselves silly over the driving on that road, then turn RIGHT to follow 58 all the way into Santa Margarita. Turn LEFT onto main street (after RR tracks) in Santa Margarita. STOP at local restaurant. Sorry- I don't remember the name of it. (This is our planned lunch stop IF we decide not to eat at the diner in Taft)

After the Santa Margarita stop, we follow the main road west onto the 101 south.

101 south to madonna road- turn towards Embassy Suites, park car, kiss your porsche, then the ground- You've made it!

Would love to have joined you Dave, as you know that I just completed the heart, lung and kidney transplant of my '70 T (a.k.a. Millie). Unfortunately, I was asked/told not not to attend Treffen.

Edit: I told the person that is the subject of this post (not Randy) that I would include what he believes was said to me. Apparently I was told that there was an individual that would be on the drive down to California that does not like me and that would make the trip "uncomfortable", so it may be best not to sit passenger in his car down to Treffen or drive my own car with the gruppe down to Treffen. I think I got that right.

For the record: I get along and hang out with most of the R Gruppe members in Washington. I think the individual members are great people. There is only one member that has chosen to make it his business to kill the invitation that I was again "told" surely would have been forthcoming. I have since told my contact in R Gruppe that if an invitation came forward at this time, I would reject it, because I feel that I have been treated wrongly by the gruppe. I hope the gruppe gets back to its original intent and stops with all these politics.

Yeah, Scott ... me too. R-andy Wells told me I would be asked to leave if I ever showed at an R-grope event. And THAT came just because Dane offered icecream (I think he has a built-in cooler) and I knew the old R-guys have a tough tiime get'n about ...out of the parking lot. But you know .... they "don't like attitude." heh-heh.

I thought rgrope was for early cars. Oh yeah, it says so right on the website..........

there are a fair # of short hood members or guests that have attended.
And they did not even drive a black audi wagon!


And as far as i am concerned- we are all law abiding citizens traveling together , on public roads, enjoying California's scenery- I don't care WHAT you drive- just as long as you drive it!

I saw Dave's post immediately and ALMOST tongue-in-cheek asked if I could tag along in my OMG Mid Year car but then I figured... they actually don't want anyone but early cars along so why would I WANT to go?

Nevertheless, thank you Dave for the opinion expressed that we're welcome. I still think the truth is those guys would prefer "others" are not there.

i should be down that way doing a daul-sport ride and camping just east of SLO. i will have to print your route and see if we intersect any highway near you guy's route. look for me and 150 of my dustiest & dirtiest friends.

by the way dave i got the bumper, great packing job i am thrilled.

Bull****. I told Jeff Higgins that since you are continuing to have issues with Dane Burns that I did not advise you riding down with the PacWest chapter, but I did not - nor will I ever - say that you or anyone else cannot attend any Treffen or RGruppe event that is open to the public. That is entirely up to you. RGruppe events on a member's private property are a different matter and are by invitation only.

like I said earlier tonight - guys who talk trash from a keyboard demonstrate a level of maturity that any club should frankly question if it wants to have as part of what it is doing. all of you guys who don't like the gruppe should just ignore it. that would be what an adult would do. rather than insult people, why not make your own club? This is a place to be friendly and share a passion for Porsche - not insult others.

As a veteran of many of Dave's drives, let me say that anyone who joins it is in for a treat (and it won't involve any sugar).

R Gruppe is a relaxed, low-key and Concours-averse bunch, by and large. How these online threads get so bristly always surprises me.
