? on Early S and M Calipers
I'm rebuilding both sets of calipers, steel M and alloy S.
How hot do calipers, on the track, generally get? I don't want to paint them, but would like to Clear them. Duplicolor has an ceramic enamel engine paint in clear that is good for up to 500 degrees. Will this work? Do I even need to clear the front alloy calipers? ![]() Ready for rebuild ![]()

It depends and isn't uniform in any event
brake fluid boils in the range 400-600°F, depending on the fluid

If you clear coat them, I suspect it will stay on there. But, they don't stay pretty very long. How are you going to clean them? Obviously brake parts cleaner will dissolve or at least soften your CC. And, no, you don't have to clear the AL calipers, but all the steel fittings and bolts will rust right away if they are not anodized or painted. Mine sure did.

It depends on how you drive the car. A track car can see 1000ºF rotor temps. and more. I was reading that NASCAR brake rotors can reach 1400º and at times 1800ºF.

Calipers don't run as hot as rotors

Thanks Guys. I'm going to clear the rears and leave the fronts as is. The high temp engine clear is fine with brake cleaner and has the same resistance temp as caliper paint.
One last question: spray the rears now, let cure for a week, then rebuild OR pull pistons out, clear, wait, rebuild? Which do you think will work best, or, it's just not going to matter? thanks again.

Shaun 84 targa- Where did you get the duplicolor clear? Pepboys? autozone? paint supplier? I'm thinking about re-clearing the black calipers on my (wifes) 993. The black is still good, clear is peeling though.
Cheers, Cooper

Cooper, you can get it at AutoZone. It's in the engine paint section.
It's really nice paint for a rattle can. I used the Chrysler Red for my Koni struts and it sprays beautifully. Doing all my engine tin in gloss black. BTW, let the can sit in a bucket of hottest water out of the tap for about 5 minutes...comes out of the can so much better. ![]()

Excellent! Thanks for the quick reply!
Looks like I have a project to do now! I was going to repaint with the black high temp ceramic caliper paint and then re-stencil the 'Porsche' back onto the calipers...now i'll just scratch them up a bit and clear them. Hope your calipers come out well for you. Cheers, Cooper
