Any Other Purpose for a Harness Bar?

I want to mount a camera for my autocross runs in my 911SC targa, and the only way I know to do this is on a harness bar. I have stock seats and don't have any real need for a harness bar.

Stable Energies makes one for a good price. I'm just wondering if there is any benefit to having the harness bar other than for attaching harnesses. (Example: Does it stiffen up the rear section of the car?)

I'm thinking it might be stupid to buy a harness bar just to mount a camera. At least if there was some structrual rigidity benefit to it, then it might be worth it.

Any help?

Any solid piece you place across the car will add some measure of rigidity. Some will say it is noticeable and others not.

How about "it looks cool"?

All joking aside, using it for a camera mount was the main reason why I installed mine.

Too bad my digital camcorder ended up breaking because of the vibrations sent directly to it.

I agree with all of the above. The harness bar will help stiffen the chasis, especially in a Targa. I have one in my coupe, though I have not tracked the car in a couple years but I know that if I took an impact to the B pillar that would help in deflecting some of the impact away from me.
