Numerical oil gauge upgrade: what a racket!
I'm betting that 98% of those who get the numerical gauge have a perfectly working "lame" gauge to begin with. Why can't we just get a new faceplate for this gauge, along with the correct sender? It could be made to accurately read the movement of the old gauge, without extra expense...
No offense to our host, who, believe me, would be getting the money saved back anyway in the form of more parts. Sigh.... Here comes another $10 gauge on the classifieds! Right after I install this sweet new thing, that is...

Actually, the later gauges with no numbers do have numbers. In a tiny font at the edgemost end of the marks there are the numbers 60, 90, 120, and 150 which are degrees in Celcius. If you want a different face, you wouldn't need a new sender, just a face with more graduations between the 4 main lines.
The original (newer not older) gauges work fine, they just don't have as many graduations and big numbers. The old gauges which are the upgrade are just another option for someone who's looking for a more accurate reading (reading, not gauge). Getting a different gauge face custom made might be pricey anyway.

I know, but who looks into the tiny space to see numbers?
I don't think there are alot of P-car owners who DON'T want finely marked gauges for every possible measurement.. And if those faceplates were made up by the truckload, I don't think they'd cost too much. Heck, $40 apiece, marked to read correctly without changing the sender, is still a bargain... Just sayin'.

I ordered "the kit" which included a new guage and a new sender, the sender probe is about an inch long as oppose to about a quarter inch on te old one. I am convinced it is the wrong sender , even pelicans own catalog says it is the wrong sender butt hey send it with the kit anyway ...
Oh well...

Just ordered the same kit. I was convinced the sender wasn't correct, but it works.
I was more concerned that the new gauge has a three prong plug and my old gauge (pre 70) used 3 separate spade connectors. the new plug interfered with the bracket that holds the entire gauge secure to the dash so I had to use a dremel to make things fit. PITA for sure. After all this, it is very nice to be able to read oil temp which is why I went thru this in the first pl;ace.
