Saturday Morning Help Request

I am having a real pain getting the pedal cluster out of the car.

It seems that the bentley manual sequence is correct but not very helpful in terms of actually removing said parts.

The 101 projects pictures are right but the narrative desribes an earlier sequence.

And finally, the tech article is from a cluster that is clearly older than the 85 cluster I have and beleive to be original.

Any help would be great. I am in the process of cleaning up the interior metal and preparing for new carpeting. I figured I would rebuild the cluster while I was doing it.

As is always the case with me, a simple four hour project turns into a multiple day, multiple headache voyage into the not quite right.

The vertical bar is bolted to the bottom of the master cylinder unit. in the base of the unit you will be able to see the end of the bar with a large bolt on the outside to your right as view from the front of the car.
you would think that it would be hard to re-install but it is not, just keep the bottom bolt loose. the other rod pumps the master cylinder and should have a clip at the bottom and should slip off of the pin when removed (had to deburr mine) the top of the rod is held on by a pin and clip.

OK,

I got the second problem addressed. Right now under the car removing the skid plate to get the pedal cluster.

The vertical support bar still is in place even after loosening the bolt on the master cylinder.

Jhubs, anyone,...

There is a socket head bolt on the bottom of the vertical bar at the pedal cluster. If I remember correctly, you can get the cluster out with the bar still attached. I did it that way, anyway. Just snake it out from under the dash. Attach it to the cluster first before reinstalling as well.
