Hershey Pics
Anyone else back home yet from Hershey? What a great day and great weather. Today was the first time I had my car out since the nice weather we had back in January before the snow and salt hit us.
I snapped a few pics. First one is my car, back on the road now with a new rubber seal around the rear window and repainted Targa bar. ![]() The next pic is a striking green longhood Targa that was in the Concours area. I don't know the exact color, but it's not conda green. Another interesting early car is this light blue longhood. Inside it's all business. Very nicely done. ![]() There were more vendors this year, and there was a lot of support for 356 and 911 owners. In the car corral, a nice forest green metallic SC sold for a decent sum. My big finds was a new SC distributor cap and rotor for $5 and a bag of nice SC bucket seat trim parts for $4 (the kind of stuff that nickels and dimes you to death if you have to go out and source it). We also picked up the requisite T-shirts and hats. All in all a fun day. Brian |

Brian,
What year is your car? I noticed the wiper blades are parked on the driver's side. Mine are on the driver's side. Also what color is it. My car is close, but mine is a paint to sample paint job.

My SC is an '82 and the color is wine red metallic. I flipped my wipers to park on the right. I like the better view while I'm driving.

Just got back from Hershey. You can check out my pics at the link below. This is the photo collection of the rebuild of my '82SC, but I uploaded my Hershey pictures there as well.
http://picasaweb.google.com/geoff.gerhardt I went to Hershey as a 911 novice looking for a color and body style for my rebuild. I wasn't sure if I should add a rear wing and turbo flares. After having a good look at all the 911s there, I think I will go with the flares, but no rear wing. I like the look of the rear wing, but I saw a couple turbos with no rear wing and thought they had a more understated powerful beauty. As far as color, there were a lot of black and red 911's. I was hoping to see a dark metallic grey or charcoal one, tho. Geoff

There were a fair number of turbos there today -- including one or two in the for-sale area if I recally correctly.

Did any of you guys see that '71 911E soft-window Targa in the Porsche parking area? I had never seen one up close before. I think the owner left before I could get back and take a pic.
With the Targa top on and the window folded and stowed under the tonneau cover, the car's roofline looked almost -- dare I say it -- 914-ish. Very cool! Brian |

the 912 to the right of that blue RS rep was a very nice looking car. not sure what grey it was but i liked it a lot. i have a pic of the interior on that blue car but don't have my cable to upload it with me. i will do so later but i can say it was very nice.
i didn't get to see the softie up close as i was too worried about getting through all the booths first. there were 2 really nice looking 356's in the for sale area. enjoyed seeing those. anybody have thoughts on the beck 904? my big score was 3 large posters from the local Porsche dealer tent for $6. how about the hippie chick rust pics? i really liked the framed one with the plant in it. cool stuff.

The beck was a very interesting car the chassis is all stainless steel. The only downfall is it starts at $50000 for a roller... but still very neat. I took about 60 pictures up there and here are all of the soft window ones

I arrived around 1100 hrs and the weather was cold and windy, rain closing in late in the day. I wasn't pleased with the early 911 trun-out. Just a few 67-73 models and not that much in parts selection. I looked at the blue 72 RS and Green 72 at the show car lot - they were nice. The 71 Targa drop cloth was on the other side and got alot of attention.
I did take notice of the sellers - honest and didn't over price their parts. One guy was shocked that his early 67-68 911S "complete" front end suspension parts did not sell for the asking ($950)..included Koni struts the Alu brake calipers too! I have his phone number if someone wants to call him. I was looking for a 72-73 driver door mirror, front seat belts for stk 70 seats. I did talk to Steve Stomski Racing...wow does he have great parts, machined by him too! Bavaria911

It seems like it varies a little bit every year in terms of what people bring. My perception was that were more wheels this year than in years past. Also more complete engines and transmissions. I also thought there was more available this year for the 356 guys than in prior years.

Purple rs look with black scripts was forsale. Owner wanted 49,000 for it and it looked to be a almost stock car with just paint and graphics.

My first year attending this. I really enjoyed the day.
For $275 I picked up a 911 engine stand head and several engine rebuild tools - cam socket, crows foot socket, front and rear seal installer, case stud inserts with tools and a few more engine rebuild tools. Also found a few 356 parts I needed for less than I expected to pay. People were friendly and prices, I thought, were fair. Ran into a few people I have know through email and talk lists but never met in person. I had a great time and will be there next year. |

I would have liked to have seen what the sales area looked like around 7 or 7:30. We didn't get there until 9 a.m., and then shot the breeze in the parking lot for awhile with some guys that we had hooked up with on the drive in from Harrisburg. We rolled out of Northern Virginia early, but we stopped and had a leisurely breakfast. If I absolutely "had to have" something major, I would have gotten there a lot earlier. Still it's a fun time and a great way to get your Porsche kharma on for the spring and summer.

Ron, since SS pistons are $200 from our host, if your calipers are in very nice shape, including original anodize, I'd put them at $600. You may not sell them immediately, but that's what I think they are worth. Excellent cores, and by that I mean don't need a rebuild, (but always should when buying brakes with no history), are in the $350 to $450 range.
I beadblasted mine the other day in prep for a rebuild. Not so pretty with all the anodize off, but functional.

I was there. Met a couple pelicans, not as many as I would have liked. I was there as a seller so I didn't get to look around at all. Probably a good thing for my wallet. My one purchase of the day was a sweet ducktail from a fellow pelican, thanks Keez.
