3.2 litre recommended octane
What is the recommended octane rating for the 3.2 litre motor? I am looking to replace my 3.0 with PMO's and part out this coming winter and purchase a used 3.2 and I know the 3.6 needs to run on premium fuel and my 3.0 can run on 87.
Thanks

Here's a pretty good thread on the subject. I don't think there is a definate answer to this...
I would also be interested in suggestions on this topic, taking modifications into consideration. Chip, exhaust, etc

The owners manual of my old '88 said 91 octane IIRC.

there was a thread awhile ago about installing a knock sensor to those cars that didn't come with one.
Jim Sims and Randy Webb posted interesting info on various designs. What i got from it is that it's a difficult choice and it's not fool proof. That wrote me off right there. imo better safe w/high test than sorry unless you're running an expensive engine data monitoring system. almost like a small boat where the fuel cost should be a minor issue regarding total costs.

With so much information on this topic in the past, has the search button stopped working?

The short answer is whatever the manual recommends, assuming it's a stock compression motor. You really have to run a high-compression ratio motor to justify anything above 91. My Carrera runs just fine on 87.
