RA-1 tire wear?

This is the right rear on my SC. It has about 600 track miles the last 200 with an extra 1.2 negative camber. So I think the inside wear will catch up with the outside. This is my first set and I am very happy with them. My question is how long will this tire last. When do you know you are nearing the cords?

Thanks,

Dave

I am not really sure about this this but I think that when you cannot see the round dimples.

When you get about halfway through the life, have the tires flipped on the rim (not just side to side, but inside out). That will effectively double the life of your tire. On my SC even with about 3 degrees negative I still wear the outside quicker than the inside.

You know when you're nearing the cords when...um....you cn see the cords. The trouble is these tires get better and better them more they wear. Right up until they cord...at which point they become very squirrely. Once you are down to it looking like slicks, be prepared for very quick times, but also check them after every run session.

Actually on a tire with a really sticky compound the tire will go away after you wear through the tread rubber and start working on the carcass rubber. The drop off is usually pretty extreme so you start sliding quite a bit and you grind yourself down to the cord pretty quickly at that point.

It is hard to tell from the picture but it looks like you have a little way to go. There is no excuse for ever getting to the cord unless you are in the middle of a track event. On the street it is just to dangerous. Go ahead and get your replacements so they are ready and waiting.

Check the wear indicator marks when all else fails...
P.S.Some tires are designed to work / rotate in only one direction

Straight from the horses mouth...

Inspection Tips

Uneven Wear

At least once a month, inspect your tires closely for signs of uneven wear. Uneven wear patterns may be caused by improper inflation pressures, misalignment, improper balance, or suspension neglect. If not corrected, further tire damage will occur. If you discover uneven wear, bring your car to your nearest Toyo dealer. In many instances, the dealer can correct the problem so you can continue to use your tires.

Excessive Wear
When the tread is worn down to one-sixteenth of an inch, the tire is worn out and it is time to replace it. Built-in tread wear indicators, or "wear bars," which look like narrow strips of smooth rubber across the tread, will appear on the tire when that point of wear is reached.
Other Things To Look For

Look for any stones, bits of glass, metal, or other foreign objects in the tread or sidewall. These may work deeper into the tire and cause air loss. If any tire continually needs more air, have your Toyo dealer check to find out why it is leaking. Damage to the tire, wheel, or valve may be the problem.

Cooked = Need new ones, but fun right? That's what negative camber does to the tires but that's the way to have more fun.

I will flip them this week. The left has more tread. The local track is hard on right side rubber. Thanks to all for the help.

Just to be clear, you don't actually flip anything. You switch them from side to side, meaning the front left tire is unmounted and then put on the front right rim, so it's still rotating in the same direction, but now the outside shoulder is the inside shoulder. Same in the back.

Flipping the right wheel to the left side and reversing the rotating directions is not the same thing.

Jack,
Good point. Switching is a better term than flipping. Plus it sounds to much like a RE thing.
