Spare Tire...
Howdy, another question for the "P" Brain Trust... What do y'all do for air for the spare tire? I guess the three options would be:
1. Do nothing because Porsches don't get flat tires. 2. Aerosol air can. 3. 12V air pump, if so who's do you recommend? 4. Other... Thanks,

I recently took a Pelican Poll regarding the spare. I am thinking about going without one, and replacing it with a plug kit and two cans of fix a flat. I also have a foot pump from Sears that works very well. My car didn't come with the compressor.

Don't use fix-a-flat. Terrible stuff. I used it once with success, but the second time, it did not coat correctly and I had a 375 mile uncomfortable ride. The plugs are a good idea for roadside temp repair. Always have it patched.
BTW, my spare is leaning against my stairs in my house - yes, I am a bachelor. Dave

You don't want to use fix-a-flat on the spare. It is reusable and needs to be collapsed to put back in the car. If you fill it full of some sort of tire goo it is going to mess up its insides.
Fix a flat is for tires that get replaced (semi)regularly. The spare doesn't get replaced so it would just sit there for years with that glop inside it.

I agree. I used to work at a tire shop. FIX-A-FLAT is some bad stuff. It will eat away your rims over time and also will throw off your balance.

Since we're on the subject of collapsible spare tires, does anyone know who sell's and mounts them??? My tire is 34 years old and probably doesn't work or, if I inflated it, it would probably rupture due to crakcs

I just used three old inflatable spares to move a parts car around. All three inflated just fine, with no leaks or cracks.

Thanks,
I think rolling around a parts car probably didn't put too much stress on those tires, as opposed to freeway speeds. I think getting a new tires is probably one of those "piece of mind" things?????

I carry two large cans of Fix-a-Flat, no spare. If I ever have to use them, I'll dismount the tire as soon as possible, clean it out completely, clean the rim, fix the leak and be no worse of than I was before I used the stuff. F-a-F is only bad if you use it to actually fix the flat permanantly.
